Life in Victoria so far

Jun 29, 2010 10:59

9:30 is a perfectly respectable time to get up when one has no work or school or any commitments to speak of really, right? I thought so. But apparently my grandparents had so much to do today that they absolutely had to wake me up for breakfast an hour earlier. They've left food out for me to eat whenever I get up before, I don't know why today had to be any different. On top of that, my grandma stepped my foot while she was walking around in her crocs around my makeshift bed on the floor. Wake up or I'll step on you with ugly rubber shoes!

Sheesh.

All that aside Victoria is going fairly well I'd say. The barbeque up island was fun, it's one of the only barbeques I've gone to where they served food I would eat. Normally when I go to a barbeque I have to find a polite way to say "I'd rather starve a little than touch those salads", because people make out of the ordinary stuff for special occasions. Well lucky for me, caesar salad was good enough to make it onto their buffet so I had something to pick from. Of course there were still things on the table that I didn't want, but it was a good spread, I wasn't left wanting.

Saturday was Chris' mini HvZ, we only had 10 people in the end but we still had a lot of fun. We didn't have enough zombies for it to really be HvZ (we had, well, Mike. Ooo, scary zombie) so we did a whole bunch of game modes. A little capture the flag by Elliot, a little get the hell away from here there's mosquitoes, a lot of goofing around in the ECS. Chris already has the pictures up on facebook, and he didn't realize there were no pictures of me until he was putting them up. Apparently he had bought the gatling gun purely for the fun of having me using a gun almost as big as I am. And I was done up, I had my sharky gun tied to my hip, had the shot gun on a quick strap on my right shoulder (in reality, not very quick-- or at least, not quick enough), I had the gatling gun hanging on my left side, holding the trigger end so it wouldn't tip me over, and my lever-action rifle in my right hand. Chris was rather proud that I had the most guns with me, even without the gatling gun.
After we had done quite a bit, the boys started getting hungry so we headed back to the Cluster unit and had a little barbeque with the little barbeque. We had burgers, and sausages, and chips and drinks. Some of the guys arranged an outside nerfery to display everyone's guns and I got a couple of them to play Left 4 Dead 2 with me. It wound down pretty quickly after dinner, and eventually it was just Chris, James and Owen. Owen was upstairs doing his own thing so it was Chris, James and I playing Left 4 Dead 2's Survival Mode, which really just amounted to us killing each other with my claiming it was for achievements.

Sunday was my first sleep in day since I came out here really, and then I came down to hang out with my grandparents since they're heading out to see my mom soon. Yesterday I went out on errands with Grandpa so I could go shopping for the few weeks I'll be without them. I got a bunch of food, and lots of cereal. I'll probably end up bringing some of it up to the guys' place in the end, but we'll see how it all plays out. I got the lazy-man's way of making Banana Chocolate chip muffins (banana muffin mix and chocolate chips), mainly because when we were up in Duncan there were some in the kitchen. Chris' mom had made them a few weeks ago apparently, no one told us- There's a significant chance I ate a moldy muffin, and there were like 6 more but some of them were moldy so I just couldn't eat them T-T So I'm hoping they will taste somewhat good, even if they won't be anywhere near as good as his mom's.

Today I'm not really sure what's going on, I was going to be going up to Duncan to watch Tim's Valediction Ceremony (that's the formal fancy pants name right?) but I'm not really sure how to get up there. So I think I probably just won't, and we'll just have to settle for pictures. But maybe Chris has thought of something I haven't, who knows, I won't close the door on getting up there until 6ish rolls around and it's obvious I couldn't make it up there in time.

Tomorrow my grandparents leave for their trip through Alberta, and apparently now they don't even know when they'll be back. I guess my uncle talked them into staying at their place for longer or something. Either way, I have July to myself basically. So I'm finding a job, hanging out with Chris and the guys, and working on my writing. I'll be celebrating my few weeks of independence by going to a late night LAN with the guys in the ECS, a la our first year. Except this time James will be there, instead of Will. Differences and nostalgia aside, its sure to be a lot of fun -- assuming the old fogies can stay up to (or dare I say, past) midnight ^_^

As for finding a job, I applied to be a Data Entry Operator but I don't have a keyboard with the num pad so I might have screwed that one up because my keystrokes per hour is really low only having the top numbers... I still have two more keyboard tests so I'm gonna borrow my grandparents computer with full keyboard for that. If I get it though it'll be a good deal, it's a temp on call job so I'll still be able to look for a part time job for the year. I've decided to go in person to apply at places because I don't want to get into something that's ridiculous (like working at Tillicum or something else in Esquimalt without realizing, which almost happened). Who knows, maybe I'm just procrastinating.

Now I think I'll go check out the Salvation Army just up the street before walking up to see Chris for the afternoon before his midterm tonight.

The game.
