I've said before--though not in my LJ--that I see the Doctor as a queer figure. Not queer in the sense of "gay" (though my fic might indicate otherwise), but in the theoretical sense of an outsider who doesn't adhere to established norms of masculine behavior--he's an intellectual first. *nods* exactly. everything about that is simply true.
And, yes, Donna SO rocked! I was a little concerned sometimes, that she would be pushed to the sidelines with Martha reappearing but she managed to fight her way back in just fine - GO DONNA!
And I looove her family. I always love when when the Doctor comes into contact with a bunch of "humans" - it's so entertaining on many levels.
btw: YEAH for Wilf being .. er ... the same as in the Voyage of the Damned ^^ not the same as it was with Martha ... Freema being in the S2 final and all (cousin my a**)
and, my perosnal favourite stuff this episode? The Doctor being all nerdy and giving the genius boy a run for his money (run for his money? pheww ^^)

Heh. Thanks! I was mucking about with that a little. I'm really interested in that stuff generally (gender studies and whatnot) but I tend to get a little jargon-y when I start to talk about it. :) I'm glad I got my point across.
I think there's a long tradition of that in this show--the word play, certainly, it just happened to be brought out in this episode, and the Doctor's intellectualism. I'm sure they'll let me write a paper on this in grad school... :P
And yes--Nerdy!Doctor is love. I love the bit when he says to the UNIT general, "I get lonely." Cracked me up. :)
