OMG awesome. There were puppets, and rainbows, and snow, and general camp and kitsch and fabulousness. And did I mention that he's gorgeous? And then they sprayed confetti everywhere and got a bunch of audience members on the stage during the finale. (Sadly, with my cheap balcony seats, I was not one of them.)
I don't get to a ton of concerts, but when I go, this is how I want to be entertained. I want to see a performer who is there to perform, and that doesn't mean just standing at the mic and singing. And, I mean, Mika can SING, but I can hear him sing on my ipod any day. A good concert means tons of energy and no one in their seats and, in this case, drag queens and crazy percussion interludes and Mika taking a moment to let us all know that he'd left his fly undone, and interrupting a song to say, "Sometimes, there's just no excuse. It's just messed up. We're starting this one over." And taking his shirt off to much applause, and dancing around in sparkly pants.
Still doesn't hold a flame (pun intended!) to Rufus Wainwright, who I saw last year and whose show included a Judy Garland drag finale, but well done. Much enjoyed.
Happy Friday!
