This week will go down as one of the worst in my life I am afraid.
I received an e-mail Tuesday morning telling me my father was in the hospital. I know he had been sick the last week or so. It sounded like a severe cold when I had talked with him last. I called him at the Hospital around 9am CST and we talked. My mom had died of pneumonia after her third bout with cancer. So I was already I would be losing him to that. Then he told me the family plague had caught up. He had heart failure 6 (now 7) days ago. They thought it was a cold the whole time. But when the fluid was still coming out his nose and his Blood Pressure was off the charts, they knew something was up.
He has lived 7 years longer than his dad did. His dad had lived 7 years longer than the previous one. That seems to be a trend and with that it appears the heart just gives up. My grandpa died just after I was born. It was a heart attack. He thought he had indigestion and drank milk...lots of it. When the paramedics arrived the meds they gave him wouldn't work. The stomach had all the milk to digest. My dad just recently started drinking more milk. I wonder if he thought it was indigestion. Plus he fell off a fire truck he was working on recently. They pulled away while he was still on it. He thought the pain in his left arm was that...
Gives me an idea where I might end up (other than six feet down...of course).
I know he has a living will. I know he has all the other stuff taken care of if he passes. I just don't want to lose him. I never got close to my dad. This year I saw him every week at least once until last week. But I did at least talk to him on the phone.
I asked Emily to have the kids make up get-well cards.
