Waking came gradually this time, and peacefully. Nagi opened his eyes to find himself lying on the cot, curled under the thin blanket and back inside the cell. A perfectly intact cell--the same as the one he'd tried to escape from, near as he could tell. For a moment he luxuriated in the ability to see and hear again, to lie there without anything other than minor aches and pains. Then the memory of his aborted escape attempt returned, and his temporary peace vanished. He'd been so close....only to have it taken away.
Putting his feet on the floor, he rested his head in his hands. Even the Maze was better than this. At least they weren't treated with anything other than benign neglect there. Nagi was finding he vastly preferred that to the one-on-one attention he was now receiving.
