[Disc] The King and Clown

Dec 09, 2006 07:32

Tonight I watched The King and Clown for the first time. My darling of a best friend (that chick owns my soul I swear) found it subbed and downloaded it. All this was after I introduced her to the gorgeousness that is Lee JunKi, through Anycall CFs and Lee Soo Young's MVs. I wasn't going to look at it until after my last exam on the 19th (so far!!) but she couldn't wait... And frankly, i couldn't wait any longer either.

The film was... so much more than I ever expected. Granted, I really didn't know what to expect. But I had read a review from a critic who'd seen it at the Toronto Int'l Film Festival (TIFF) and the review was amazing. SO I expected something good. What I got was amazing.

Gong-gil's character blew me away. And I'm not even talking about physically - although he was so absolutely perfectly beautiful. But Lee JunKi gave Gong-gil such a depth of personality. He brought out all the naivete and sweet sincerity and innocence of Gong-gil. I'm thrown.

And the Captain (did he have a name? I don't think I ever heard it) was bloody wicked. I loved him up, down, back, front and centre. That actor (anyone know his name?) was so skilled. I mean, his facial expressions were dead on. I loved his character - honest, loyal, stubborn, and brilliant.

And the King - was manic to no end. the things he did. I literally was cringing when he decided to go crazy on someone.

The chief Minister guy was also notably well acted. As well as the other minstrels. Nok-Su was also good... but all I could keep thinking was, how much prettier Jae was as Nok-Su (LOL!).

The plot itself was amazing: it immediately jumped you into the story and the relationship between Gong-gil and the Captain (which was so heartbreakingly amazing). There were parts I was going 'No, he couldn't...' and in the end, when the credits rolled, I couldn't believe it was over.

And now, an hour later, I'm still shaking. And I can't get the image of the last scene out of my mind.

Blah - there goes Bio.
