ScrapBook and the new Photo Album service

Apr 27, 2012 22:02

If you have images stored in Live Journal's Scrapbook albums, then you need to read the latest updates on LJ Pics Beta

In a nutshell, Scrapbook is being replaced by a new photo hosting service, and the two will not be able to co-exist.

The most recent update is in Russian, but if you scroll about half-way down the first page of comments you will see that someone has kindly summarised it in English. This is the one that you need to know about, and you will also (probably) need to post a reply. It's not clear what will happen to your albums if you don't reply, but I always feel it's better to be safe than to be sorry!

ETA:
I've used Google translate to transcribe the post into English; it's not perfect but this is what it says:
Transferring photos to a new album
Friends, welcome news to inform you about the albums!

Photos included in the next update of LiveJournal, which will be released soon. And now comes an update to the album, which will include functionality for transferring photos from an old to a new photo hosting Skrepbuka. Please note that after the official release of the new Photo Gallery Skrepbuk old will be disabled.

With the release of today's update at the same time the existence of Skrepbuka and Photo Album will be impossible. This means that before the transfer will not be accessible entry point into the album: Link away from the main menu and the buttons to add images to create and edit pages of the record (but the button will access Skrepbuk).

In this case, you can still get into the album will be the direct link (ваше_имя_пользователя.livejournal.com / pics / catalog). All photos are already uploaded to the Gallery, will also remain available and will appear in the records.

For you, the beta users, we can start the process of transferring photos from Skrepbuka a new photo sharing site before the official release. Of course, when you transfer saved all of your albums and photos from their names, and privacy settings. The transfer itself takes up a couple of minutes, and then a few seconds, if you have not loaded too many pictures. Please note that after the transfer of photos you can not go back to the old Skrepbuk.

If you want your photos from Skrepbuka were transferred to the new album, please leave a comment containing '+' to this entry. Incidentally, in the updated photo hosting included many new features that you can try before all other users.

In general, leave your comments in the pros - and move to the new album!

I must admit to being a tad annoyed that this fairly important update has only (so far) been released in Russian. Whilst it's become increasingly obvious of late that that is the main language of LJ, I feel it would have been courteous to the rest of the world if we'd been afforded access to the same information.
