Weekend stuff

It was a decent enough weekend at I-CON. It was chilly, but it's usually chilly for I-CON. Last year, when it was warm enough to picnic, was unusual to say the least.

The gaming track was so very much improved from last year, in terms of layout. Hopefully Dregg can keep all that space, since it really was needed. I had a very nice time seeing some of the gaming pros I only see a few times a year, and chatting with them in an environment where I'm not rushing almost constantly. I got to meet Alex Jurkat's wife and son, who are both very nice. I'm hoping he'll be able to bring them down for D9, though that will depend on his parents who will be visiting during July. I also had the chance to meet Jamie Chambers who wrote the Serenity RPG and Steven Kensen of Green Ronin, who does a lot of the Mutants & Masterminds work for them. They both seem like very nice guys, and I'm hoping to get at least one of them to come east.

Saturday night was very pleasant. We did our traditional dinner at Tara's in Port Jefferson, with the Haumans and Aaron Rosenberg, all of whom I don't get to see often enough. Aaron will be coming down for D9 this time around. Maybe for next year we'll try to get the word out to more people, and get a proper group to go. The last time a lot of the Long Island 'crowd' was all together was at Andrew's funeral, and it might be nice to get a bunch together for something that isn't related to someone dying. After Tara's, we headed south a bit to Peter David's house, since he and Kathleen were hosting a party for the mailing list folks. I'd finally had a chance to meet him at one of his panels during the day, and he's a really nice guy. The conversations during the evening were great, and it was nice to see several more people that I don't get to see enough of, like Keith DeCandido and Bob Greenberger. Sweet guys. I really have to drag them down to D9, too.

We stayed with some friends out in Riverhead, and that was very pleasant, too. Steve and Dennis have quite a bit in common, like their love of fishing. We've made plans to go out there once or twice over the summer, so they can go out onto the Sound. Sarah and I can take the kids to the water park nearby. Or, maybe just David if the boat can fit Sean, too. I think he'd want to go fishing, instead.
