The Hernando County Sheriff's Office has arrested one of its own.

The sheriff's office said it has charged deputy Daniel Spise, 51, with one count of attempted arson. According to the sheriff's office, Spise's wife, Constance Spise, asked him to leave their Brooksville home on June 16. Spise refused to leave.

Early the next morning, Constance Spise saw her husband leaving their property. A few minutes later, she woke their son and asked him to get ready to leave for his sitter.

Constance Spise went to the garage, where there was a strong propane smell. She found the burner on the propane gas grill had been turned on and the valve on the propane tank was open. The propane gas had apparently been on for 30 to 40 minutes.

Rex Hinkle of the State Fire Marshall's Office said that propane gas is highly combustible and that several items in the garage, including the car, garage door opener and freezer could have caused the propane gas to explode.

Daniel Spise has been suspended from his job without pay and is being held at the Hernando County Jail without bond. Spise has been a deputy for more than 26 years.

-hahahahah oh my god. what a clever man.

Two teenagers are in trouble with the law after they allegedly went on a racial-slur filled graffiti spree in Lakeland Thursday morning.

Shann Jones' SUV was vandalized.

"They wrote 'KKK' in silver spray paint, " Jones said. "I was blown away. I know this stuff still exists. But to have it happen this close to home was unbearable."

Jones had the spray paint removed by a body shop.

The Polk County Sheriff's Office says a deputy caught two teenagers at the complex early Thursday.

"He noticed silver paint on their hands that they hadn't washed off or it hadn't come off," said Michal Shanley of the sheriff's office. "He questioned them some more and they ended up 'fessing up to spraying the graffiti all over the buildings."

The sheriff's office said 18-year-old Samuel Ronald Jones and a 14-year-old have been charged with one count of felony criminal mischief and six counts of misdemeanor criminal mischief. The sheriff's office said it doesn't have enough evidence to charge the two with a hate crime.

This graffiti was spray painted on an apartment building's walls.
Investigators said Jones and the 14-year-old said they committed the acts because they were bored.

Jones has a hard time with that explanation.

"This is crazy," Jones said. "This starts at home. Boredom doesn't bring hatred. Those kids had to know what KKK stands for."

-this is the mosy rediculous this i have ever read. BULL fucking shit some 14 year old acully is all like "i hate me some niggers so good. i think ill go write kk on bulidings becaus ei ahte them so much BAAAAA HAR HAR HAR!!!" it called being fucking bored. dumbasses.

Furious that their romance was ending, a 78-year-old great-grandmother shot her 85-year-old ex-beau to death as he read the newspaper in a senior citizens home, police said.

"I did it and I'd do it again!" Lena Driskell yelled to officers who arrived at the home June 10, according to testimony. Police said she was wearing a bathrobe and slippers, waving an antique handgun with her finger still on the trigger.

She is accused of plotting the shooting of Herman Winslow because she was angry that their yearlong romance was ending and he had found another companion.

Driskell was released on a $25,000 bond and placed under house arrest after a hearing Friday. Fulton County Magistrate Richard Hicks stipulated she must wear an ankle monitor and live with her granddaughter Lena Holt.

"I don't want her on the streets," Hicks said. "Who knows how many other guns she has?"

After the nasty breakup with Winslow, she kept showing up uninvited at his apartment in Hightower Manor, the complex for seniors where they lived, Detective D.B. Mathis said. A security guard tried to calm her down, but Driskell drew out her gun, pressed it to Winslow's head and fired up to four times, Mathis said.

At the hearing Friday, defense attorney Deborah Poole stressed Driskell's clean criminal record and said she had had the gun since 1957. "She's not a threat to anyone," Poole said.

Driskell whispered angrily to her lawyer when the detective recounted her confession.

Her granddaughter, who was named for her, said Driskell and Winslow had shared a bank account and a love for traveling

"What drove her to something like this is beyond me," a teary Holt said outside the courthouse.

"We have no control over what she did, but we are very sorry," Holt said.
