What movies I've seen as of late:
1) The Affair of the Necklace: At Robyn's behest. It was good as far as period pieces go. So I'd say I liked it. Although it sorta had a few of the elements that I hate about "the Crucible" in it. (ie the whole sacrificing evreything for your name) And it also was similar to Vanity Fair. (although to be fair I suppose it goes the other way around) None the less, an enjoyable experience.
2) Being There: At Dave's behest. This is supposed to be a hysterical movie. Accoding to the tape cover as well as Dave. Sadly, I didn't find it terribly amusing. I know why it was supposed to be funny. And I recognize that it is both brilliant and funny. But I just was not moved to laughter by it very often. Perhaps it's just because of my deep seated aversion to the mentally retarded. Or perhaps I just wasn't in the right mood. None the less I was rather dissappointed in it. I also felt like I had seen the movie before... well... a different version of the movie. And now it's gonna drive me crazy til I can remember what that movie is that I'm thinking of. Oh well.
3) Gun Shy: At my own behest. I wanted to see this movie when it first came out back in the day. But never got around to it. And of course, me knowing my tastes the best, enjoyed it immensely. (Liam Nesson & Oliver Platt, how can it not be good?) I thought it was rather brilliant. But then again we know that my definition of brilliant is vastly different from that of other people. I can defend this definition... but not now. Instead ask me when you buy me a drink.
So far What I've read:
1) Timon of Athens: I wasn't terribly impressed, although the debates with the cynic I thought were especially amusing. But the play as a whole? Eh.
2) The Winter's Tale: Soooooo good. I'm surprised it doesn't get more credit. The prose is gorgeous and heartbreaking and oh, so good. Plus the lovely quote "A sad tale's best for winter."
3) As you Like it: Very enjoyable and terribly funny. Your average Shakespearian comedy to be sure.
Up next is "Two Gentlemen of Verona."
This is mainly for me, pay no mind.
