...it will show you how to set up a donate button that will open a payment window directly. But you have to click on that while you're logged in to Paypal under the address you want to accept donations for.
I'd suggest setting up a Facebook cause for this and linking up to donations, and inviting all of Vera's fans to participate.
FYI, I have never heard of Vera, I came here from Nick Mamatas's journal, but I am donating a wee bit to help out. I do online marketing for non-profits and can tell you that the most important thing after people send a donation, no matter how small, is to send them a personal note of thanks via email, and try to keep all those addresses together so you can send email updates on the progress.

Thank you notes are forthcoming, but they cannot be immediate.
Thanks for understanding.

You have a flash community that's come up around this - I am sure there would be volunteers if a call was put out for help with this aspect.
Or, you know, do what you like. Just trying to be helpful, knowing that timely thank you messages are often turned into more donations by the original donor, and frequently forwarded to friends.

My sense of the matter is that the community mostly understands that they are busy people who are taking out time they don't have to help Vera, and appreciates all the work they're already putting in, and will be patient.
