Several years ago, my local SF group
DMSFS got the bright idea to put together a library at a local coffee house. Well, the coffee house closed, we couldn't find a place for the books and it didn't seem right to just get rid off them... until this community formed. Now we can promote reading AND publishing in a fair way to everyone who donated the books.
This auction is for a stack of science fiction anthologies. None are signed and all should be considered "reading copies" (i.e. the condition could be better). If you like short fiction, this would be a great lot to win. It would, however, make your shelves a tad darker. (One of the ways you can tell the fantasy section from the science fiction section is that science fiction section is mostly black... dunno why.)
The books included in this lot are:
* Year's Best SF - David G. Hartwell (ed)
* Year's Best SF 2 - David G. Hartwell (ed)
* Year's Best SF 3 - David G. Hartwell (ed)
* Year's Best SF 4 - David G. Hartwell (ed)
* Year's Best SF 5 - David G. Hartwell (ed)
* Year's Best SF 6 - David G. Hartwell (ed)
* The Science Fiction Hall of Fame Volume IIA - Ben Bova (ed)
* The Science Fiction Hall of Fame Volume IIB - Ben Bova (ed) (Why they didn't call them 2 and 3, I have no idea)
* Science Fiction, the Best of 2001 - Robert Silverberg and Karen Haber (eds)
* Future Net - Martin H. Greenberg and Larry Segriff (eds)
* Great Stories of Space Travel - Groff Conklin (ed) (This book is WHITE!)
* Rod Sterling's Other Worlds - Rod Sterling (ed)
* The IF Reader of Science Fiction - Frederik Pohl (ed)
* A Century of Science Fiction - Damon Knight (ed)
These books range the generations of SF, so there'll be some excellent classic short stories in here as well as some that are fairly new. I'd make a list of all the stories contained in these books, but it would take a REALLY long time, so here's a photo of a baby tiger instead:
Also, it's come to my attention that some of you already have some of the books I'm putting into lots. So, here's the deal. If you win, you get to choose to exclude books. I will then include bonus books from the SF library. If you tell me what sorts of things you like, I'll try to match tastes, but my stock isn't infinite, so if you exercise this option, you get to be surprised.
The one catch is that it's gonna be heavy and I can't cover the shipping. If you bid, you promise to cover all the shipping. Functionally, this means that I'd need you to paypal me an amount estimated on the high side (looks to be about $10, less if I can find a boxes for free). Anything left over gets added to the Help Vera pool.
So, if you like short stories or just have a really short attention span (look, a
squirrel!) this would be a good lot to go after.
Auction ends December 20th.
