Charles moved his thumb over Erik's hand that sat over his chest. "I always have," Charles said. "I'd like an entire night..." Charles relaxed comfortably against Erik. "You won't forget."

"Maybe I can help remind you of what it is like," Charles said. There was a pause, "It is worth it, though, isn't it?"

Charles closed his own eyes, feeling Erik's head against his own head. He smiled, "I'm glad it is." Charles didn't know what he would do without Erik there. Especially if Anne still had shown up without him. "Anne is very lucky you were here."

"Yes, a very doting family that gives her the confidence to be her," Charles added. He had noticed that the other children with visible mutations were more willing to be proud of those changes. He couldn't always tell (without cheating) if Anne had that effect on them, or if they did it for her at first. Now, though, they seemed far more comfortable. "And a very large family."

"If only I had known." He could feel Erik breathing against his back and enjoyed the feeling. In truth, if he had thought that it came down to family, there would have never been a doubt in his mind that this would have actually worked. "I do now." That was what mattered.

Charles shook his head a little to show that he understood and would not forget what it was. "You don't, either," Charles said. From the first day, Charles had always wanted Erik to know that he had a place there, even when things weren't always perfect.

Charles could feel Erik's contentment. It was far stronger than any rage he had felt from him when they first met. "I have to confess, I didn't think you would stay."

Charles blinked a few times before he settled on closing his eyes. He was grateful he had. He imagined it would be very different taking care of Anne on his own. "We'll hope she sleeps all night, so you don't have to move. I'm too comfortable to let you move right now." He pauses and chuckles a little. "Sleep well."
