Turner Classic Movies Movie Database

Finally, IMDb is getting some competition. As much as I love IMDb, it's become kind of... how do I put it... oh yeah: a mind-numbing abyss populated with rabid fanboys, elitist cinemaphiles, lobotomized celebrity worshipers, Hollywood scumbags and (for some odd reason) a whole boatload of fascist neocon douchenozzles. Oh, and trolls. But that goes without saying. Anyway, I digress.

There's been some other decent movie guide websites that have come along over the years like the All Movie Guide (sister site the All Music Guide). And All Movie is cool in that it reads kind of like Leonard Maltin's Movie Guide, but doesn't hold a candle to the depth of IMDb. In fact, as far as I've seen, there isn't *any* site that compares well to IMDb.

Though I think I found a site that, with some time and user participation, might rival IMDb: the new Turner Classic Movies Movie Database. Aka the TCMDb. At first I figured the content would reflect what TCM shows on it's movie channel of the same name (i.e. b&w films, pre-1975 color classics and a fair amount of silent features), but it turns out they plan on listing every movie out there. A few obscuro flicks didn't show up in my searches, but everything from Casablanca to Cherry 2000 and From Here to Eternity to Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas had a record in their database. It may never amount to anything more than a niche site, but here's to it becoming a whole new web phenomenon of it's own.

web, film
