contemplating the concept of too much music

Jul 16, 2009 10:48

I go through phases in my never-ending quest to acquire music. Sometimes I have a couple of albums kicking around my hard drive or shelf that I need to review and decide whether or not they're keepers. At other times it gets to be dozens. Right now it's getting ridiculous though. I just checked my "to review" folder on my fileshare drive and there's *ninety* albums in there. I know people who have entire collections that consist of ninety albums!

Sometimes I wonder if I enjoy finding and acquiring albums more than actually listening to them. That sounds really weird now that I say it, but I think it might be true. Then again, everybody loves a treasure hunt, right? On the other hand, having music that you don't listen to is like a sin to me. I don't want to be like those people who go on shopping binges and buy tons of clothes, 90% of which they will never wear again. Though I'm kind of leaning in that direction actually. Come to think of it, deep down I kind of am a hoarder. That reminds me that one of the good things about having had to recently pack my life into the space of a medium-sized SUV and move back "home" forced me to throw away so much stuff. And you know what? It was really, really, really hard to part with that stuff at the time, but now I don't miss any of it really. Well, I sure wish I still had those hand made, custom speaker cabinets. Ugh, let's not delve into losses of the recent past right now.
