searching for offerings: delicious!

Aug 20, 2010 15:45

Hello all! help_pk_mod has kindly given me posting access so I can clarify a little about the way that offerings are tagged on the help_pakistan delicious account. I find that people tend to tag in many different ways, so hopefully it'll be helpful to have an explanation ( Read more... )

Wow, that's great work! Thank you so much for going to the effort of doing this - it makes the offers very easy and comfortable to navigate.

I do have one remark:

Arashi, Johnny's Entertainment and jpop (JE) are all the same fandom. I'm not sure how to change the tags to reflect this, or whether it makes sense to change them at all, but I thought I'd let you know, just so it's out there. *g*

Arashi is a jpop band, as are KAT-TUN, NEWS and Kanjani8. All of these bands belong to the entertainment company Johnny's Entertainment, or JE. And it's all Japanese pop music, or jpop. ;-)

Maybe - if the tag Arashi stays - there should be a tag for the other bands as well? Or alternately, everything could go together under "jpop" or "johnnysentertainment"...

Ah, got it! Hmm, as someone who knows more about JPop than I do, what do you think? Will people be okay searching for different bands under a monolithic tag? Given that American bandom is under one tag, I'd prefer to do it that way, but I also don't know the fandom. And if so, would Johnny's Entertainment or JPop be a more accessible name for said tag?

A single monolithic tag should be fine - everyone will know to check for their bands in it, and considering there probably won't be a great number of offers in total, I do think this makes the most sense.

And IMO, "johnnysentertainment" would definitely be the better tag. "jpop" can also include artists and bands that aren't part of Johnny's Entertainment, like mega-star Gackt or the Visual Kei people.

(If you want, and if there is any doubt in future where some offer that might be jpop and/or Johnny's Entertainment belongs, just ping me.)

I think it might be a good idea for people to clarify whether or not they do JE stuff. I offered for J-Pop, but I don't know anything about JE and prefer Hello!Project/AKB48/other female acts. IMHO, there should be both JE and J-Pop tags and people should clarify in their offers (and I'm now slapping myself because I didn't xD)

okay, sounds good! I've added the Jpop tag to your bookmark and removed JE as well. :D Hopefully people will clarify...

Eek, just saw I mistyped in my first post. Just to clarify if I was confusing: JE stands for Johnnny's Entertainment, the company, not for jpop in general. (Another short version used for JE sometimes is Johnny's.)

hey! Sorry to make assumptions about what you know about, but I didn't know who else to ask - are you familiar with Korean pop at all? If so, is it generally called kpop? The only band offered so far (that I know of! I could be missing some!) is Super Junior - would it be better to tag them individually or under some more overarching tag?

Thanks!

Hey! :-) I'm not an expert on kpop, but I know a tiny bit because the fandoms tend to overlap. :-)

"kpop" should be fine as a tag - I'd also use a singly monolithic tag in this case. DBSK is another kpop benad I've seen on offer, once by the same author offering Super Junior (http://community.livejournal.com/help_pakistan/1110.html?thread=315734#t315734) and once here: http://community.livejournal.com/help_pakistan/1110.html?thread=69462#t69462

And by "benad", I meant "band". Errr. ;-)
