||You are entirely too reckless, Richard.||
What, there aren't any civilians in the way, and these guys are easy pickins. Just space pirates. No point in being easy on them, either, with how they've been taking advantage of the chaos and raiding evacuee ships passing through. They have this coming.
He hates space pirates. What with how much goddamn trouble they've given the Corps in the past. At least, for once, these guys seem NOT to be related to Zorr.
||I am not discussing the current fight, Richard, I am talking about what you did in the Nexus. Taking advantage of temporal distortions--||
You're still on that?
||Yes. Taking advantage of temporal distortions--||
--is completely justified when things worked out horribly and you can change them--ooh, that's got to hurt. Face full of bulkhead.
||The results can be disastrous.||
Or better than what was there before.
||Or perhaps just disappointing, Richard.||
... He'll be able to change it.
||Richard...||
He will!
||I worry that you're too emotionally invested--||
Nova slams his last enemy into a wall, leading to him sliding to the floor and leaving a bloody streak on the bulkhead of the ship.
"He'll be able to change it!"
There is silence for a moment, as he just stands there, breathing hard, realizing a line has been crossed. The space pirate he slammed is still alive, just hurt rather badly, and lucky the hero hasn't popped his head like an overripe melon. All of the rest are down.
||And if he is not able to, Richard?||
Silence for a little longer.
"I want my friends back, Worldmind," Rich says forlornly, gaze cast downward. "I want the woman I loved to be alive. I want my one friend left to be okay, instead of a miserable wreck. I want my home to still be home. If I can get all those things and make my world--and the universe--better off for it, what'd I do wrong? Why's that too much to ask?"
||Because time--and life--rarely works out that way, and I fear how the disappointment will effect your mental state.||
Ignoring Worldmind, Nova signals for the nearest Kree prison transport to come pick these jokers up.
||You cannot save everyone, Richard.||
He accesses the next distress call, in the queue of thousands.
"I can try," he says, as he leaves the ship.
||Richard...||
Nova ignores him. "Anteres Drift, your distress call has been received by the Nova Corps. I am responding..."
