Day 03 - Your parents
My mum's name is Sarah Anne Dove, and my dad's name is Steven Mark Dove. Originally my mum was Sarah Anne Jenkins, so her brothers called her SAJ (sa-j, with the j like in jug) but then dad married her and made her SAD. XD /old joke.
Mum's 51, dad's 44, so there's a big age gap (7 years). Mum was originally my dad's boss, part of a group of traveling christian youth preachers in the 70s and 80s. They met when my dad came for an interview and the rest is history. Mum has two brothers called Andrew and Ian, the former being a short accountant and the latter being a massively tall bulky rugby player/builder, so they look hilarious next to each other. My dad has a twin brother, also called Andrew, which makes referring to "Uncle Andrew" confusing. They don't really look like twins any more, though, since dad's put on a bit of weight and Andrew's stick thin still XD
Dad's side of the family is quite poor, though Grandma worked hard to raise herself through the ranks until she was working for the navy offices down in Portsmouth until her retirement. My dad's biological father got manic depression when my dad and his twin brother, Andrew, were 14. He and my grandma split up, and grandma re-married my current granddad, a naval military weapons inspector (aka he makes sure things go boom when they're supposed to). I had no idea he wasn't my biological grandfather until my actual one died... about three years ago now. Was very awkward to attend the funeral of a man I'd never met or even heard of, but in pictures he looked very like my dad and it was surreal. My great gran on my dad's side is amazing. She's 90 this year and refuses to move in with anyone else, despite needing to use a walker to get around.
Mum's side of the family is the opposite, coming from old aristocracy. My granny's house is this massive, 300 year old thing complete with ghost, and she owns about four acres of farm land (though she lets others use it). My grandpa, oddly, is a trucker XD though he's retired now. They met in Canterbury on New Years in 1935 and fell in love. Ain't that sweet? Granny's family tree goes all the way back to Great^5 Uncle Jenkins who was the last governor of the British Raj. ^^
I've gone a little off topic but I can't explain my parents much without explaining the rest of my family. ^^;;;
