i've been looking through my parent's photo albums and simultaneously creating one of my own, cackling all the while. i have yet to decide which is more hilarious.
the magic of that endless string of disposable cameras: a choice naked photo of my roommate. photo-documentation of The Theme Parties. boston harbor. the first day it snowed. the view from my window of strand books and the empire state building. all the visitors who slept on my floor, looking vaguely displeased. (five out of six of them now say they hate new york city, what was i doing wrong?) chess in the park. chess on dormitory floors. matt wearing his glasses upside down. photo-documentation of nick learning how to smile as the months passed. several hundred shots of us dressed to the nines about to go somewhere. the wildly varied architecture of florence, italy. several hundred pictures of steven making a horrible face (starting in florence, italy.) several hundred pictures of myself...shut up. it wasn't vanity, it was trying to place myself in a context, in a time and a place and among people so that i remember exactly what i looked like when i feel like i first came into myself.
ok it was mostly vanity.
it was pointed out to me that in the interest of future generations i should perhaps not include so much underage drinking in my little trip down memory lane.
i can see it now: "and here are Granny's dearest friends lying on a bathroom floor...and here they are lying in a hallway...and that is absinthe that everyone has got in paper cups..."
but i just discovered, just now, the hard way, that soy milk CAN go bad. it can go VERY bad. consequently i am never drinking anything again. not even water. i will be getting my moisture from chewing on celery and lettuce and other succulents, like a gerbil.
