So its over. Its finally over. 35 hours of a 3 day weekend spent in a Computer Graphics room. And after all the shit its finally over. Oh, yea, you probably don't know what im talkin about. Im talking about the Animation team for Robobtics. Seriously, if any one ever said it couldnt get any worse durin the time i was there, i would of strangled them with a mouse cord. So here are the events in order, starting on Saturday. So Saturday. All was good and well. We were done modeling and texturing and setting everything up. So about 5 we sent everyone home except me, Ricky, Justin, and of course, our fearless leaders, Cohen and Tristan. At about 5 we were about to set up a network render. For those of you who dont kno wat a net render is, its when a bunch of comps run servers for rendering an animation. One comp assigns all of the projects to all of those comps and its a quick and easy process. We were all ready to leave when tragedy struck. The servers came back and said that there were textures missing. Well, Cohen and Tree (aka Tristan), said that the comp wasnt lookin in the right folders. Well 2 hours later, we are still having the same problem. Frustrated, we just put all of the textures in one file, and it was a surefire way to work. Well, the computer lucifer wouldnt have it, and gave us the following errors on all of the comps: "An unexpected error has occoured. Terminating Job." WTF!?!?! When we don't know wat the problem is, the comp doesnt even know! IT DOESNT MAKE SENSE!!! Of course, this is about 10:00 at night that we are still tryin to fix this. We are still gettin the errors, so we decide to render the "ghetto way". The "ghetto way" is to go to each of the 70 comps and manually set it to render certain frames. We ended about 11:00 at night. Sunday. 7:00 am. I was in the same room to render a different camera for the same scene. So we were there till about 7:00 pm. During that day, we did something that no other person or group has ever done to the school. We successfully overheated the Global server in the school. For those of you who dont know wat that is, its the drive that holds grades, files for teachers, almost everything. Also the M drives were taking down with it. So not even students could get into their things today. Of course, on Sunday, all of our things were saved to the G drive. So when it died, we all made a resounding noise, along the lines of "FUCK!!" And the irony was that about a week ago, Cohen asked Tree if we should back up everything, and Tree said, "No, just save to the G drive. It's like Fort Knox." Well he was somewhat right. It was and is still like Fort Knox, no one can get in. So we we decided to cut our losses, and RE-texture everything. So that was all of sunday. Monday. The last day of our escapade. We had survived all of what the computer demons could throw at us. We had comps crashing, the G and M drives gone, no net rendering. So Monday was all ghetto rendering. All of it. We had all the comps we had to render, rendering. Then the waiting game had to be endured. So wat to a bunch of comp geeks do when bored. Take a shitload of floppy disks, and chuck them at each other. And i mean hurl them. It has become to known as "The Disk Wars of 2005". It was glorious. So, at about 10:00, we had all the renders done. Frames were done. So our now exhausted, dead, yet still fearless leaders, stayed up till 2 o clock this morning to get it in on time. And all of this for 30 seconds of animation. Wow. We're done. 6 weeks. Killer last minute weekend. So we have defied the computer demons, and Murphy's Law presents itself, and yet we still finished on time. Congrats Team.
