Tying the Psychic Kids to the Apocalypse

I've heard some criticism lately about how the Psychic Kids plotline doesn't tie in with what's currently being said about Sam and Dean. Specifically: If it always had to be Sam and Dean, why did Azazel make multiple "special children" and have them battle to the death?

It's a valid criticism. After reading the Companion books, it's really apparent

I don't really think a lot about this kind of stuff, but when you look at it, almost all of it makes sense in a certain way. The continuity of the story is pretty awesome. Or at least, I think so :). And things like this... It's the same with almost every story, right? Things get watered down, and it's only reasonable to assume it's the same with the one the demons get...

Yeah, I don't really think of this kind of stuff either. It wasn't until I heard other people questioning it that I realized that it always just made sense to me - but that it might not for other people. I think the writers have done an amazing job tying everything together really.

Excellent meta. I just have one thing to add; Azazel picked parents that had the can-be-possessed-by-angels gene. It's the only thing that makes sense. How else could they expect to have the winner be a vessel?

Not to mention that having the kids kill one another, means that you take out potential vessels that the other side could have otherwise used as well.
