Wow! I haven’t watched this episode yet and I AM SO CONFUSED! There seem to be a lot of converging plot-lines and returning characters. Dean and Cas are mad at each other. Shapeshifters aren’t what they’re supposed to be. WHY WAS KEVIN IN HELL???
Okay, I’ll wait to watch the episode tomorrow on the CW app but I have a feeling I’m not going to enjoy it as much as this review!
Yeah, this is why I think it's a buck-leming episode. A ton of characters, nothing explained very well, and blatant ham-fisted attempts at creating tension because the plot isn't strong enough on its own.
Not to like... criticize or anything.
Hopefully you enjoy it a little though! At the very least, you get to see Kevin again! That's always a good day. :)
How positively delightful to get a recap of yours before 2 am my time! (Confession: I wake up in the middle of the night to pee--I know, TMI--and on show nights I always check to see if you've posted your review yet and then stay up to read it!)
Good guess on who the writers were. However I have to say this episode bothered me less than last week's for having things that made no sense in it. I could have easily lived without Rowena and Ketch making eyes at each other, and still don't quite understand how some of the souls from hell are appearing in the form of their original bodies while others had to use bodies from the graves, and Jack the Ripper was English so why doesn't he have an English accent? But mostly I could appreciate that Dean and Cas had a fraught conversation, and Sam is once again being a leader, and Kevin! even though I still am not quite sure exactly why he was there...but my favorite part was Dean shooting possessed Ketch without hesitation. It was scary!Dean and shows just how far gone he is!
Francis Tumblety was an Irish-born American (hence the accent). He was basically a snake oil salesman and hated women - kept female body parts in jars on display at home.
My theory for Sam's wound: part of Chuck is in him, and his weird vision is some kind of Chuck-ability to see memories of other-dimension Sams. At least, I hope so. If it's Lucifer back, AGAIN, I might throw something at the tv.
Interesting theory! I think I'll definitely favour that theory too - because I also really don't want them to bring back Lucifer.
AND YES! WHAT'S GOING ON IN THE EMPTY WITH JACK AND BILLIE AND THE ENTITY?! YOU CAN'T TEASE THAT IN THE FINALE AND THEN NEVER BRING IT UP AGAIN! (It's been 2 episodes, so it's not like it's "never" - but still.)
Season 15! I didn't comment on 15.01 because my positives did not balance out my negatives. :/ But I have lower expectations for a Eugenie&Brad episode. The most interesting part of any BuckLeming script is watching the actors try to spin gold out of crap...and every now and then they succeed
( ... )
Re John in heaven--after Mary died the second time, Cas got into heaven and he told Sam and Dean that he personally saw Mary and John together in heaven.
Oh that's right, thank you borgmama1of5 ! I do remember that now. But I also remember Mary telling Dean that she was plucked out of heaven where she had her own versions of little Sam and Dean, who were obviously memories/figments of heaven. So I think I assumed it was just a simulacrum of John. That's a pretty dark reading though. You could definitely read it as John made it to heaven, and he and Mary eventually found each other within their heavens because they're soulmates, and they have baby versions of Sam and Dean who are memories/figments. Heaven is complicated...

Yeah, there are tons of plot inconsistency in favour of convenience - but that tends to be the way of things things days.

And show us Jack and Billie!
