That scene from Executioner's Song killed me. Dean trying to be lighthearted for his brother, having a hard time hiding his pain. So, the brown tones really did a good job with setting the tone of Dean's sombre feelings. Don't know about the other episode.

The other episode is was covered by a jacket the whole time, I believe. So, it didn't have as much to do with the mood of the episode - though, as part of the episode took place in dream!purgatory, it was washed out of all colour anyway.
