Yeah, it's hard because they're basically giving us 3 movies rather than a TV show. But unlike most movies, they don't have the budget to make them really quickly. I think we're actually really lucky that Benedict and Martin like doing Sherlock so much, otherwise they'd probably just move onto their new epic film careers and not look back.

But yeah, if treat them like movies, instead of TV, then waiting two years seems reasonable - after all, the Hobbit was constantly filming and we still have to wait a whole year between those movies. I think the Harry Potter movies averaged 2 years between films and movies like Thor, Ironman, and the Avengers, all have multiple years between movies - and those are better comparisons, since they don't start filming the next one until the first one has come out and done well. Star Trek came out in '09 and then it wasn't until '13 that the next one came out - though that was considered a long wait even for movies.

That being said, they no longer have to contend with Martin filming the Hobbit, which I think was the reason that S2 and S3 took so long. I'm deciding to hope that now that Martin isn't doing a 3-year stint in New Zealand (and sometimes stealing Benedict too), that hopefully it'll be easier to get S4 done.

Let's hope. It does put me off enjoying a show / or movie (LOL) when no one knows when the next installments are going to be.
