Rewatch S1: Ep 02 to 04

Tonight I was able to sit down and watch Episodes 2 to 4 (Wendigo, Dead in the Water, Phantom Traveler)! I'm putting my ramblings under a cut, because I figure they will probably be long, but here are general things:

Jared's accent really does come out in these early episodes. Especially in Dead in the Water, when he says "Green. The Light's Green

I actually haven't watched episode 4. It was all weird on my hard drive box and I just haven't gotten round to dealing with it. I like your comments about their age difference and the way Dean views their family. I think it's absolutely spot on. I actually think one of the reasons that the 4 years is such a big gap is because of John, the way he treated them. Sam acts like the baby of the family precisely because John and Dean have treated him that way his whole life.

Now you've got me jonesing for those dvds so I can watch the commentaries. I was perfectly willing to wait to get them for Christmas but now I want them NOWNOWNOW!

Oh, and you are not too much of a nerd. I watch it with my laptop next to me so I can type up my thoughts n stuff. I also wish they had just made the boys Texan. I don't know why they didn't!

I agree with you on the kids being treated far differently. You can see it in both Something Wicked and A Very Supernatural Christmas, because it's safe to assume that Dean has been his Dad's foot-soldier since the beginning, whereas Sam only finds out about monsters when he is 8/9...up until then, he'd been granted a fairly innocent childhood (in comparison to Dean's anyway. I think Dean had ceased to be a kid by the time he was five

The problem is, I don't think I will be getting my christmas presents until after christmas, since we're not going home, and presents will have to be delivered by people who *are* going home. So basically we get it when they come back from their vacation. boo!

Hahaha, legitimize their accents! I honestly wonder why they chose Kansas. I think they probably wanted them to seem very midwestern. I mean, Kansas is a very blah nothing state, a very heartland of America type place. Maybe they worried that Texas was too far south, and had too strong of a state identity in terms of being "southern" and "Texan". If that makes sense.

I think you are right about why they picked Kansas (plus, apparently there is some crazy urban lore about Lawrence or something). I think really they didn't want them to have any real state-affiliation. If you think about it, the boys have probably been nomads since they were 5 and 1. They may have been born in Kansas, but I think overall the writers probably wanted them to have a sort of homelessness-feel to them. So, yeah, basically what I'm saying is that I agree that the problem with having them from Texas is that the state-identity is too strong.

In an upcoming episode they are apparently going to work a case at an old high-school of theirs...it'll be interesting to see where the high-school is.

Oh yeah, that'll be cool. By the time they hit highschool, they were all over the place, so it could have been anywhere. I hope it's a Bobby's house thing, because I just like Bobby.
