Sae's eyes blinked open slowly. Her head hurt. How long had she been out for? It felt like she had been asleep for days. It had been bad enough that the days and nights at Hell's Gate had been feeling a lot shorter and more blurred together than they ought to have been. Now she had no idea how much time she had missed, if any.
Oh no, what must Takakura and Nanaka and the others be thinking? How long have I been missing now? Are they still looking for me? Sae thought frantically as she sat up in bed. She felt a strong urge to grab her wand, makeshift as it was, and just try that teleportation spell again on her own. It was a stupid, pointless thing to do, but she felt like she had to try it. She didn't know how much more of this place she could take, new friends or no new friends.
When she went to look for it, however, it was nowhere to be found. In fact, nothing she had done in her cell before seemed to be there. Everything looked as though it had never been touched. Looking outside the cell door, it seemed that the position of the other cells outside had shifted a little as well. Had she been put in a new cell? Why would they do that, she wondered? Was this something the prison did just to confuse prisoners and find their forbidden items? That wouldn't be surprising, Sae thought as she swallowed a dry lump in her throat.
She didn't have more time than that to look over the cell before she was dragged off to the usual morning showers.
