[Night 13] North Wall

Jan 03, 2010 13:29

[From Here]Heading across the opened area around the Infirmary and the Crematorium, Cloud could easily see the cages on the North Wall in the silence of the night. They hung shadowed and untouched, just dangling in a show of how powerless they really were while in this place. He hated going to the North Wall, but this was for Yuuri and not himself ( Read more... )

Sephiroth had heard what Cloud had sent, but he didn't feel the need to reply. The position he had taken had only been for his benefit and not for anyone else, and he hardly saw the need to be thanked for such things.

Following along behind the group, Sephiroth's gaze shifted from the two useless parasites and the Cetra and over to Cloud before taking note of their surroundings. There didn't appear to be any dangers yet, but the ex-General had learnt well enough that looks were always deceiving here.

His pace began to slow to an almost stop when the group's focus shifted over to the task for the night. He would have no part in taking down any of the cages.

"Yes," 11-12 said politely in answer to Yuuri's question about this being his first night. He gave the boy a tentative smile, wondering how someone so young had ended up in here. He was young enough himself at twenty, but he thought Yuuri looked even younger.

Then he saw where they had stopped and a lot of the colour drained out of his face. He looked a little ill and turned his face away from the awful sight.

Aerith frowned at 11-12's reaction to the area of the Northern Wall. She should have expected such a thing - he'd only just arrived here and likely hadn't experienced too much of the prison''s horrors quite yet.

"It's okay," she said, trying to reassure the young blonde. "Just don't watch, okay? We're just going to get Yuuri's friend down so we can bury him." As she spoke, she looked over at the Maou, hoping he wouldn't be too emotional. Loud noises would attract the monsters, and if they could do this task without encountering one, that would be ideal.

He could only imagine how horrible it would be to spend your first night here at the prisoner. Sure, he'd once been in the same situation, but it had been so long ago that Yuuri had forgotten. "Aa, we're here for you." Yuuri said comfortingly before his attention was stolen by Cloud.

"Only one cage," Yuuri muttered more to himself as he glanced over at all the other bodies hanging there in the cages. It felt so wrong to just leave them up there, and he wondered if there was anything that they could do. Yuuri's thoughts, however, faded away as he caught sight of the one that they'd been searching for.

"...Wolfram..." His voice was soft as he broke away from the others and moved on over towards the cage. Yuuri could feel the stinging at the corner of his eyes before he glanced over to Cloud, "We've got to get him down from there."

Cloud stood silent and waited for Yuuri to make the first move. The young Maou moved to where Wolfram's cage hung in silent shadows, and he followed the heavy chain over to the pulley mechanism. "We will, Yuuri," he murmured as he grasped the handles and began to manually lower the cage down as quickly but safely as possible.

He knew that regardless of Wolfram's condition, most of the people here would react. Still, this was the mission that they had decided to do, and he continued to lower the cage down until it settled on the ground.

Walking over, he pulled the sword from his back and felt the lock that kept the cage closed. He purposefully didn't look at the body as he raised his weapon and cleaved through the lock, allowing the body inside to be accessed. "Pay your respects, Yuuri. We move on soon," he murmured before moving to stand by Sephiroth.

Sephiroth simply remained off in the background as the others conversed among each other. What happened to those weak fools in the cages was hardly any concern of his, and he saw no point in caring one way or another.

Still, he couldn't help but listen to the irritating sound caused by the cage as it was lowered down to the ground. The locked status didn't last for long, and soon enough Cloud had rid the cage of the padlock keeping the body within locked.

Watching wordlessly as Cloud moved over to stand beside him, his softly glowing gaze remained fixated on the blonde. He didn't say anything while his attention lingered before it shifted back to watch the scene play out.

11-12 was also standinng out of the way. He hadn't expected this and he wasn't sure he wanted to be here, with these people. This place was feeling more and more oppressive. He hugged himself and continued to look away from the others.

Aerith tugged on her bottom lip with her teeth as she watched what she had hoped to at least somewhat avoid. Yuuri wasn't doing very well, but she couldn't blame him. As long as it didn't turn into an outburst, they would probably be okay.

Not wanting to get in the way of Yuuri's mourning, the Ancient stood off to the side and watched silently. She would only get involved if she needed to.

Yuuri felt himself flinch when the loud sound of the sword breaking the lock made its way through the area. It made things all too real for the young Maou, and as Cloud moved to step away, Yuuri found it difficult to move into the cage ( ... )

Cloud remained silently standing next to Sephiroth, feeling the ex-General's attention on him for some time. He didn't move to catch Sephiroth's gaze but instead watched how 11-12 refused to look; maybe it would have been best not to bring the boy. No... the kid needed to see the realities of this place regardless of how unpleasant they were ( ... )

The scene might have been touching, if Sephiroth cared for such things, but as it were he simply remained silent and off to the side. Sephiroth turned his attention away from the scene as Cloud moved away from his side. He'd allow for the blonde to do whatever he desired without interference. Obviously this child meant something to Cloud, after all.

Instead Sephiroth's attention shifted over to regard the yard around them. If there was a creature in the area, now would be the time for such an attack. Sephiroth would hardly allow for it, however.

Hearing all the sounds of Yuuri with Wolfram were somehow even worse and his imagination was seeing such horrible things 11-12 chanced a glance to what was really happening. He saw Cloud going to help Yuuri but he didn't offer any help himself. He was too shocked by all of this and felt as if he wouldn't be able to move his legs if he even tried.

He'd seen death before but this was very different and he sympathised with the young boy, biting his lip as he watched him with a worried expression.

As the scene unfolded in front of her eyes, Aerith felt the distinct urge to cry. Her vision began to cloud and her eyes began to sting to the point that for a moment, she had to look away. Crying would likely only make the situation worse, but hearing Yuuri's voice made it difficult to keep composed.

She was glad when she heard Cloud's voice as he offered to help the boy. She would do her part to comfort Yuuri once this task had been completed.

The touch to his shoulder caused the young Maou to jump in surprise before he glanced back over to see the blonde. "...Cloud..." His dark gaze shifted over to regard the other three standing off in the background behind the blonde hero. He tried to smile at them for their gesture, and he did for the most part, but there were still tears pooling in his eyes. "Thank you, everyone."

Yuuri's attention shifted back over to Wolfram a moment later. "I don't want you to get your hands dirty," He muttered quietly, but then hung his head in shame as he admitted, "But I don't think I'm strong enough to carry him... I guess I really am a wimp..."

He really was a terrible friend, wasn't he? Why couldn't he be strong enough to pick up his best friend?

"Stop it," he said kindly as he patted Yuuri's shoulder. "We came to help, to support you, and that's what we're doing." He carefully pat Yuuri's head before he knelt down beside the kid. "Sometimes real strength comes from being able to work together."

Resting out, he slipped an arm around Wolfram's chest and gently hauled the body from the cage. He shifted his other arm down so that he could hook it beneath the dead blond's thighs and hauled the dead weight up into his arms. He avoided looking at the cold dead eyes that stared up at the sky as he turned and began to walk towards the prison.

He glanced at Aerith in hopes she might be able to offer a kind word or hug for Yuuri and possibly 11-12. His eyes then focused on Sephiroth. "Could you lead the way to the garden?"

Sephiroth remained silent in the background at the exchange. Emotions were something he kept suppressed in the face of others. He couldn't understand why others saw the need to blabber their emotions uncontrollably in front of others. The fact that he'd burnt down an entire town and attempted to destroy a planet, twice, in a fit of rage and revenge went completely passed the ex-General's notice.

"Very well," Nodding his head at the order, Sephiroth took a step back and began to head in the direction of the Central Tower again.
