Punishing the Lawyer
Sam wasn't one to give in easily. And since he became king of Hell he almost never gave in. So giving in and letting Dean have his little pet after said pet had such a short time on the rack, kinda annoyed the shit out of him to say the least. But it kept Dean happy and if it kept Dean happy that meant that Sam didn't have to worry about piles of dead demons when Dean got pissy.
So there the King sat on his throne where he usually dealt with all his public demon bullshit. With this situation, Sam wanted to make sure that Dean knew that his problems weren't private. He had to make sure that Dean understood that just because the demon was his big brother, he wouldn't get any special treatment.
He had to make sure Dean wasn't doing anything wrong to this soul. It's not that he was worried about the toy cause he seriously wasn't but he just had to make sure that Dean wasn't going too easy on him. The lawyer did work for Evil Inc, didn't he? Sam knew his record wasn't squeaky clean. And just because Dean had showed a special interest in him didn't mean that he didn't get treated like any other soul that got sent to Hell. Fairness and equality. In Hell when a demon was standing in front of the King's throne, a demon was just a demon and a soul was just a soul.
