Day 72 | sometime after dawn

Jul 04, 2011 15:24

[Sometime after dawn, a phone call is placed to everyone. A young male voice, irritated and somewhat exhausted, comes over the line, and the sound of him fiddling with things he's come across in his empty house can be heard in the background.]I know I was tired when I got on the train last night, but I don't remember taking one to some creepy Long ( Read more... )

No one really knows where here is or how we end up here. I'm sorry.

Right.

Perfect.

Did everyone here has randomly rolled into town on the midnight train from Manhattan? Do we at least have that in common? Because if that's the case I'll go back to using the bus.

No, everyone got here differently. [She's pretty relieved he didn't die before he got here.]

I went to sleep in a park, and then woke up here.

Ugh. Maybe I did fall asleep on the train again.

So. Don't know how we got here, or where here is. Do we know why?

[She's shaking her head before she remembers this is a phone call]

No. We just are. There seems like there must be someone behind this, because we have these phones and are assigned homes but whoever they are they've never really said anything.

So I see. I was expected. Everyone here was, meaning someone was watching this and got this already. That means somewhere, there's someone we can talk to about this. Someone to deal with.

[He doesn't sound like he'll make this a pleasant deal.]

I guess.

But whoever they are they don't say anything, and I don't anyone knows who they are. They're like a ghost. . . maybe they are ghosts. We do have-have zombies. [Her voice gets a little strange when she says zombies. She still feels bad about what they had to do to Steve.]

Or maybe they just know lots of people wouldn't like them so they don't say anything.

I've heard about this zombies now. This place sounds oh so pleasant. I hope the movies are right about how to take care of them, at least. Sadly that's all the experience I have with them.

Hmm. Usually people with a lot of power like to hold it over everyone else's heads. Have they really never shown themselves? How long have you been here?

Well I haven't seen zombies since. . .what happened though the house is being cleaned again. . .

[Ash is . . .less than comfortable with talking about killing their housekeepers.]

It's been almost a month since I got here I think, but I haven't seen them, and I haven't heard of anyone else seeing anything either.

Then we need to keep looking. Or get their attention somehow.

I'm liking the sound of these zombies less and less. And I didn't like it to begin with.

But how would we do that?

[...]

Well they aren't here now so you shouldn't have to worry about them. And the fog is gone too.

[The half finished scarf is staring at her almost accusingly now. She hasn't even been able to touch her knitting needles since that day.]

I don't know yet. I've been here for an hour or two. I need more time to collect information and find out what's going on.

Fog? Is that where they came from?

Oh. Well alright.

No, the zombies were here before that. They were cleaning the houses.

Other monsters came out of the fog.

...Zombie house cleaners. And here I just thought they were interested in eating brains.

Are any sort of defenses enacted for when the fog comes in? Is it frequent? Don't tell me people of this town just sit around and wait for monsters to roll in and eat them. I don't want to be here too long, but I don't want to put up with attacks, either.

[This line of interrogation could just go on forever.]
