[The video begins, and it's a shot of a collared zombie going about his work. At the moment, he's stocking the refrigerator, setting the items carefully on the shelves.]

He is just the cutest thing! [The voice comes from off-screen and the camera flips around to show Death, all smiles.] Did anybody know about these little guys? [The camera turns ( Read more... )

I suspect you may grant him whatever name you'd like. He is of your realm, is he not?

[Oh! Another familiar face! A rueful smile crosses her own.] I'm afraid since I've arrived, I've lost touch with, you know, that whole death thing.

And I'm not sure if I'd want to name him if he already has a name. It seems...impolite to his memory.

[The admission comes easily.] You are not the only one to find yourself so affected.

Perhaps if he objected strongly enough, he would be compelled to break his silence and tell you the name he prefers.

Lucky us, being in the same boat.

[Death tilts her head to the side, thinking it over.] Oh, I don't know. Not many people like him are able to speak, afflicted as they are.

Is it? Perhaps, though I wouldn't be so quick to call it luck.

What would they say if they were not, I wonder. Would they tell their fellows what lies beyond the Grey Lands? Or would they merely bemoan their appearance?

At least we are not alone here, seeing someone from home?

Perhaps more from column B. And a sprinkling of their wishing they were fully alive once more. Maybe even wanting their undead status to end.

It's all the same to me. My niece is here. Have you spoken with her yet?

What I should like to know is who, precisely, is responsible for raising them. The answer to that little mystery may shed light on the greater one of how we came to be here in the first place.

I have, actually. She was one of the first people I saw when I arrived. She helped me find my home.

That does seem to be the 25,000 dollar question. I suppose I should do something to help. It seems fair.

I suspect she welcomes a familiar, and friendly, face.

Fairness has little hold in this place. At least so my observations have led me to surmise.

She certainly seemed to. She thought that I was here for other reasons. I think it broke her heart a bit that I was trapped like she was.

That does seem to be the general consensus.

Perhaps it did. She has always been sensitive to the plights of others.

For once, it may actually be correct.

One of her best qualities.

How unfortunate that it is.
