Day 51 | late morning | Phone Call to All

Mar 27, 2011 18:37

[Elizabeth had only used the device once, and so despite how important she felt this call, her nervousness would be apparent.]

Ah-- hello there. Residents. You see... my name is Elizabeth Swann.

It has been gathered, and confirmed that there are, indeed, some sort of...things about the town. I don't know what to call them but I surely know ( Read more... )

...Ships?

[Because, dammit, ships would have been nice during the flood.]

Thanks. But-- it's not that bad in town, really! I know there are things wandering around, but that's [Normal? It was kind of true, but he didn't want to say that.] okay as long as you've got other people with you.

Although... is there any way to leave town with the ships? Just to find out where we really are!

Oh yes. Fully equipped, well stocked with food and water, and with a few... other things.

The leaving proves difficult since my ship happens to be stuck in the shallows. The shoals caught her and I cannot very well free her without assistance.

I do mean to attempt to sail from this town at some point. It's merely not an option right now.

There's-- well, there are people who really want to know where this place is and how they can get home. And for some reason, we can't seem to get anywhere on foot or even in a car. Don't know if a ship would work, but it seems like a good idea to try.

...Some people should stay here to deal with those Heaven Smiles anyway.

That is another thing I wish to divulge, Miss.

There are cannons aboard both ships. If it need come to it, we could try and take some of these... "Smiles," as you call them, to fire.

As for a journey, I don't see why not we couldn't try to arrange passage. Though... if we are able to leave, it will take some honed navigational skills to determine where it is we are and where we need sail.

Oh, uh. I'm not a miss.

[It might have been much more awkward had he not gotten used to the misunderstanding while he was here. In fact, that's the second time today.]

Well, if we can leave, I don't know how many people would manage to get home. Unless this place connects to other worlds through the sea.

...How accurate are the canons? [Sharpshooters seemed like a good idea, or even lasers. Canons sounded a bit... wide-ranged.]

Ah, do pardon me! I've only just learned to use these devices and I cannot see your face. Forgive me for mistaking you for something you are clearly not, good sir.

The cannons will fare well enough. They serve as artillery, and I know not of any better fire power with which to fight.

It's okay! I'm-- well, there are other people here who aren't used to using phones, too.

[Not technically a lie.]

I'm just worried about hitting the houses or woods. Those Smiles things are supposed to be invisible, so...

That is... a possibility. Though I will shoulder responsibility for the damages simply for the greater good of eliminating parts of this threat.

I cannot stand idly by. If a sword can take a "Smile," then so be it. Yet that puts the fighter in danger of being swarmed by things they cannot see.

Shelter's important, though. And there's always a threat in town, it seems. As long as people travel in groups, it should be okay.

[He's oddly jaded to the idea of monsters by now, really.]

A sword wouldn't be the best idea. I was told long-ranged weapons worked best.

...Well, long ranged without destroying the town?

That is a risk and a responsibility I am willing to shoulder should it rid the town of these creatures.

[A bit rash? Yes. A bit unconventional? Oh yes. But that's dear Lizzie here.]

Their range is not that far. Only those closest to the beach would be effected.

[He's still skeptical, because... canons versus invisible monsters? He'd bet the town would go down first.

But then, he's always had a very hard time saying no to people.]

It... okay. I just don't know if that would get rid of them.

Which is why, good sir, I am willing to take them by sword if necessary. Though I don't know how one is supposed to fight something they cannot see, I am far more willing to go against it then sit cowering in a corner and wishing them away!

I don't think anyone's cowering from them.

[...Okay, maybe a few people in town.]

But things like that's pretty normal around here, so we kind of just... go on with our day?

One goes about life when there are creatures nigh invisible, who are malicious and attack those around them?

I do not know how any one could choose such a life without possessing any desire to do the world change about them.

Change is one thing. But the town keeps throwing new things at us anyway. Until we can find out the cause, blowing up one monster's not going to stop more from appearing later on.

We'd have to figure a lot more things out before we can actually get rid of them.

Perhaps you are right. However, I will not give up the chance to at least send a few of them back from where they came. Most likely the bowels of hell itself...

Is there any party who has thus far attempted to make sense of it? They have to come from somewhere...
