Summary: Stir-crazy, sleep-deprived Mad finally snaps and goes for a walk.
Madison had had enough. She'd had enough of the fog, of the whispers of monsters and strange creatures lurking on the very edge of vision, of the glimpses of a horribly familiar face through fluttering curtains, of her own nightmares which plagued her every time she managed to drift off to sleep. It never lasted long. One moment she'd be on the couch, exhausted, trying to rest her eyes at the very least, and the next she'd be running from some unspeakable terror in her dreams and waking up bathed in a cold sweat.
This was one of those moments. She got up from the musty-smelling couch and paced, rubbing the back of her neck, waiting for her heartbeat to slow and her breathing to calm down. God damn it. Is just one peaceful night too much to ask for?
She'd been trying to stay inside, so as not to worry Ethan, but she hadn't heard of anything horrible happening the last couple of days - surely getting some fresh air couldn't hurt, for once. She was sick of staying cooped up in this damp house with the depressing wallpaper that reminded her of the Doc's house and the sound of a buzzsaw. She'd thought she'd seen him, once, walking through the fog, power tools in hand, but it had just been her imagination.
I wish I didn't have an imagination, sometimes. It's just way too active.
She sighed to herself, threw on a jacket, grabbed her keys and credit card and left the house before she could change her mind. The air outside was cold and muggy, oppressive almost, and definitely not fresh, but she wasn't going to turn around now. She needed to get out, even if it was into this strange shadowy town where things happened without rhyme or reason.
So, not that different from the city then, eh Mad? She smiled slightly to herself as she walked, hands curled in the pockets of her leather jacket. Look on the bright side, girl! At least it's not raining.
Madison had definitely had enough rain. Enough to last a lifetime. Or two.
