junetide is awesome, and I can't wait to see what you churn out!
Characters: I really like ironic characters, the kind that defy stereotypes (like the jock who writes emo poetry, or the nerdy girl who moonlights as a phone-sex operator). I also appreciate wordplay and puns more than the regular person. I like female characters that are strong in some way (physically, emotionally, intellectually), but this strength is made all the more palpable if she is weak in another area (like a tough, ass-kicking chick who cries like a baby when she watches romantic movies). I like male characters who are mysterious skinny things with a dark secret but not so mysterious they smirk all the time and need a good punch in the face (aka, NOT LIKE EDWARD in Twilight).
I also like the crazy characters, and the characters that talk back. WIT <3.
Plot: I like the suckerpunch plots, the kind where you THINK it's ended, but then WHAM RIGHT IN THE FACE it's not even begun. I like to leave a story feeling shaky and unsure about reality. I do not, however, appreciate the death of major characters at the ends of books, it feels like I'm being cheated out of a story, "Hi, meet ____. Fall in love with them. BAM they're dead. hahahahahaha."
World-building: I love mythology. I love mythology-inspired locations and characters and names of characters and references hidden in dialogue. Tongue-In-Cheek myth is always better, of course, than "HI EVERYONE THIS IS TAKING PLACE IN MOUNT OLYMPUS AND THE MAIN CHARACTERS ARE FREYA AND NICK!"
Themes: I love high fantasy and modern-with-a-fantastical-twist stories. I love historical references. Most of all , I love PEOPLE. Anthropological studies within fictions are fun times. I like to look at how people tick, what character A would do to character B if _____, hypothetical situations that could probably never actually occur. Choices, decisions, indecision, a story rife with potential if only they had DRIVE.
Bear with me, I've never requested original art before!
Colors: I adore anything blue or green or blue/green or blue/purple. I love shadows and highlights and texture oh my! I like art that looks like it's illuminated from within.
Type: I usually paint still lifes, so I'm really drawn (no pun intended hurp derp) to things I can't do, lol. People, portraits, usually with some fantastical element (like fairies! I like fairies) or animals (I like birds, usually in flight). Or with half the painting left to the imagination, like instead of a painting of a girl, it's half the girl, and something creeping in from off the page.
I like mystery and imagination, a picture that tells half the story so you have to invent the rest. MAKE ME WORK FOR IT.
I usually do paintings, but I love all sorts of art. I like vids, and watercolors (shit, I can't do watercolors to save my life, it's like painting with MAGIC), charcoals, pastels, ink (i had a torrid love affair with ink a while back).
I'm not really a fan of modern art or surreal art, but there are some that are simply stunning, so I guess it depends on the mood emanating from the piece (that thing I said above, in colors, how i like it to see illuminated from within? yeah).
styles: Shit, I'm easy. Do a cartoon that makes my inner heart skip with glee! Do a realistic-looking painting where the characters look ready to leap from the page! Do a shadowbox, or a vid, or a collage, HOLY HELL I WILL LOVE YOU NO MATTER WHAT. In fact, ignore everything I've told you I like. The only thing that squicks me is sharks and grotesque-looking things and oozing orifices and giant spiders and lurking evil things. Seriously about the sharks, though, even the cartoon ones.
