-----Monday-----
Plans were to have a movie day at Chris's until he had to go bowling with some other group of people. Chris picked up Jess and I and we headed over to Chris's house. We couldn't believe that we were going to be wasting such a nice day by going over to Chris's and watching a movie. Jess and I made Chris ditch the other crew for some possible plans that night. We sat around brainstorming possible things to do. We only had about two hours until Chris had to go to a roller hockey game at Z-Rink and we just so happened to be watching Hockey and talking about Chris's ice hockey experiences so we decided to go ice skating. I had never been ice skating before so I was kind of excited.
Ice skating was a blast. At around 4 we headed over to Veterans Memorial Skating Rink in West Hartford. I was expecting myself to fall a lot more than I did but it was a lot like rollerblading. I suppose the countless summers spent rolling around the neighborhood on rollerblades paid off because I only legitimately dumped it once while doing a spin. We spent a solid hour and a half skating around resulting in a race against time for Chris to make it to Z-Rink for his game. He was playing goalie, so if he was late his team would just have to start the game without a goalie. Jess and I were both dropped off at the ends of our streets as Chris raced over to his game.
This is basically when the night totally goes to shit. Jess and I began to discuss plans for the night. We came to the conclusion of going to Foxwoods because at the time we thought Foxwoods was the one with the huge mall you could walk around. So when Chris's game was over he picked Dill and I up and we headed over to Chris's house where Chris took a shower. I planned to not tell Chris where we were headed until we picked Jess up. So, once Chris was all ready we headed over to Jess's. When we got Jess, instead of telling Chris where we were going, Dill gave Chris step by step directions. We were all going to be surprised once we arrived at our destination. Chris was pissed that he drove all the way out to Foxwoods as Jess and I remembered that Foxwoods wasn't the one with the mall. We decided we would go inside anyways since we were already there however after a solid fifteen minutes spent circling around inside a parking structure we popped out and ended up on a road leading away from Foxwoods.
After that little hiccup we went to Chris's house. We all sat in his living room in an awkward silence. We were in disbelief of what we had just done. The night wasn't going anywhere so we called up Manchester folks from Laurel Gardens. Apparently they got drunk one night and stumbled upon a developing housing facility filled with unlocked houses with heat and electricity. They had been raging it in one house they picked out all weekend so we decided to stop by for a game of beer pong. There was a misunderstanding and Jess was dropped off at home. Chris, Dill, and I headed over to this house to find a rather large house and a Cul-De-Sac filled with cars. We went inside to find a whole slew of Manchester kids playing beer pong with a rather large amount of empty beer cans scattered about. We pretty much just stood around since they were running out of beer. Dill and I played two Manchester kids with the last of their beer as the last game of the night. It was a pretty close game but we ended up losing by one cup. Soon after, we put everything back to where they found everything and we all headed out. That marked the end of a rather horrible Monday night. I felt bad about leading us to Foxwoods as well as making the decision that resulted in Jess getting left out of the rest of the night's plans.
-----Tuesday-----
Chris, Jess, and I planned out a day trip for Tuesday. We looked around through an assortment of Connecticut State Parks and we found one park that stood out especially. We decided to set out for Mount Tom in Litchfield. The website we found it on showed a tower atop a mountain saying that from the tower on a clear day you could see the Long Island Sound among other things.
We set off for the drive over to Litchfield. It was a pretty long drive but the route taken was a scenic one. I love driving along side of cliffs and forests. On the way over we passed so many small towns that looked so peaceful as if they had been out of a movie. Jess's dad had given her a pack of matches after she had told him what she was going to be doing so we decided we would stop at a supermarket and get us some picnic supplies so we can have a nice picnic and a warm campfire. We ended up going to some local super value supermarket, the aisles were narrow and we were the only people there who looked like they didn't belong. We stocked up on bread, peanut butter, and jam/jelly (god knows the difference) and other essential goods and we headed out.
We got to the park to find a rather icy trail going into the woods. We parked the car and loaded ourselves up. The hike up to the top wasn't a long one but it was rugged and really icy. We paced ourselves and made it up to the top in about fifteen to twenty minutes while facing many obstacles such as a frozen pond we had to walk across and a steep section of ice. The tower looked amazing; it looked like the tower at the top of Haystack Mountain but with no roof and a different staircase. We left our stuff at the bottom of the tower and made our way up. It was kind of sad to see the stuff people have done to the tower over the past, I'm not sure I understand the reasoning for drawing swastikas, writing profanity, or political jabs on such a historical and beautiful thing. We got to the top of the tower to find the most beautiful view ever. Mount Tom was one of the tallest peaks in the area so from the tower we had a 360 degree view of the area. We must have been able to see about a hundred miles in every direction. The sky was so clear that day, looking into the distance all we saw were hills and hills of trees and a few spots of water here and there.
We went down to the bottom of the tower to get our stuff and had ourselves some snacks up at the top of the tower. A few families came around and as soon as they all left we went back down to start us a fire. In no time, we had ourselves a fire. We kept feeding it until we could just sit there and take the moment in. That kind of never really happened though since we were sitting downwind and we constantly had the smoke from the fire blowing in our eyes. We stayed until the sun started making it difficult to see. We didn't want to have to walk through the woods without any light so we made our way down before the sun was gone. The walk back was fun. Kind of, minus the part where I sat down on that "frozen waterfall" and slid on my ass all the way down and ended up having an uncomfortably wet ass. When we got back in town we stopped by stop and shop to buy ourselves a frozen pizza. Chris and Jess went inside to find a pizza while I stayed in the car and changed out of my pants and put on my sweatpants that Jess gave back to me. While waiting for them to get back to the car I read an amazing letter Jess wrote me. I just sat there waiting for them to come back, just as I was about to pass out they came back.
We went to Chris's house and prepared the pizza while picking out a movie to watch that night. We picked out "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants." As lame as it sounds it was actually a pretty decent movie. Though I passed out a few times, as I had my head resting on Jess's chest, the sound of her heart beating just put me to sleep. I was tired from all of what we had been doing; I had no trouble falling asleep. The movie ended and we began discussing the idea of raging it on Mount Tom the next day. Dumont called telling us we could go up to Stafford Springs Thursday night, it was the only day that seemed to work for Jess, so instantly it was acknowledged to go up there for Thursday night. I'll leave the drama out of it but I wasn't able to go due to my license test scheduled for Friday morning. Chris's parents came home and we continued to discuss the next day's plans. We then decided to sleep on the idea and call it a day.
-----Wednesday-----
Plans were to look for alternative places we could rage it at over night as well as go to the mall to run a couple of errands. I had remembered of a beach I had seen last spring that had a huge open area and a fire pit. It was perfect and secluded. We decided to try to find that but that did not go too well as the river's recent flooding left all the land around it smelling horrible. We decided to just go to Mount Tom that night but to try to be as least sketchy as possible. While on our way to the mall I came up with an idea of checking out a Litchfield local newspaper for police logs to see if people have gotten in any trouble up there. We went to Welles-Turner Memorial Library and asked if they had any information for us. They directed us to the State Library so we decided on going there. Before we left we looked through a bunch of old GHS yearbooks, the oldest I think was 1938, and we saw some teachers we recognized in their earlier years and what not. It was fun.
We got to where the State Library in Hartford was but we just couldn't find it. After 10 minutes of circling around, we finally found it. The next obstacle we faced was finding a parking spot. When we got into the library we asked and were directed to a newspaper directory. It was pretty awesome. A room filled with rolls of microfilm and these awesome projectors that civilians are trusted with to take apart and put together just to get the rolls of microfilm to project. Chris and I had the hardest time getting it all put together but when we finally got it working the way it was supposed to, it was awesome. Jess looked at the more recent issues while Chris and I looked through the records from a few years before. We didn't find anything so we decided to just take extra caution and we wouldn't get caught.
We headed over to Buckland Hills Mall. Chris had a $50 gift certificate to Filenes so we had to find a way to spend that. I had a pair of pants that were ripped (I might have already written an entry about that whole experience) from American Eagle. I emailed the people at American Eagle and they explained that they had a policy that protected my pants. They made me feel so important. I just had to go to American Eagle and trade them in for a new pair free of charge. I was so excited. It was funny seeing the girl's reaction when I put the pants on the counter. -I ripped my pants. -Where? -Here. -Oh, Sweet, What a nice rip.
I was so excited to have a new pair of my favorite pants. While I was at the mall, I figured it'd be a good idea to get my glasses adjusted at Lens Crafters. Oh damn, the longest adjustment I have ever had. The lady just kept talking to me. The things we talked about were insane, but she had a funny personality. She sounded like a racist new hampshire(ian)? We discussed my post graduation plans, how her day was going, her doctor friends, the Olympics, oh man. I don't even know. It was pretty funny though because all of my other adjustments always go the same, "No more wrestling dad while wearing your glasses. Here you go, that should be good." but this one was a solid ten to fifteen minutes. We then headed back into Filenes where Chris got some goodies. We also stopped in the dollar store to see if we could find something we would be able to use later that night or some other night. We got ourselves some candy and some ping pong balls and decided to head back to town.
We made a pass through the car wash. It was fun. I hadn't been in a car wash since back in the day when we had our old maroon Plymouth Voyager. It was quite the experience. We then went back into town and stopped by Jess's mom's house to get some stuff for the night on Mount Tom like sleeping bags and such out of her camper. After that we headed over to Stop and Shop to buy some stuff like marshmallows and other survival supplies. Chris then dropped us each off at home and we all packed up what we needed. He picked us up later around 8 so we could watch his adult game at Z-Rink then leave from there.
The game was pretty awesome. Chris's goalie had a pretty nasty game. Chris turned 18 so he took his cage off of his helmet. As soon as Jess pointed out that the kid who takes off his cage always gets hit in the face Chris deflected a puck and it went straight up cutting his chin. It was dripping quite nicely, He most definitely needed stitches as it opened right up but Chris needed a nice scar to brag about. Chris's team came out with the win. We called up Dill to see if he was ready and we headed over to his place. From Dill's house we went to Chris's place so Chris could take a shower and we could pack the rest of the supplies in the car. We left soon after everything was done. Before the car started moving, I decided to call and let my mom know I wasn't going to be home that night. When I called she gave me the horrible news that my license test was moved over. If I wasn't in the car I would have broken something in a fit of rage. I won't expand on why I was so pissed but I was. I called Dumont and let him know that I was going to be coming to Stafford Thursday night. Though I wasn't too happy about it, I figured I was just going to put it behind me and make the best of it.
When we got to the park we found another car there. We were worried so Dill grabbed a crowbar and I grabbed a hunting knife and we both made our way up the trail. No worries, we weren't planning on kicking ass, we just wanted to defend ourselves from bears. We made it half way up to where we had to pass a frozen pond. We figured it would be too much trouble and we would spend too much time stressing out rather than having fun. Dill and I turned around and headed back to the car. We headed out and decided to look for a motel we could rage it at instead but the only one we found around there was too expensive. A Super 8 for one night for $96 is a bit high. We then figured we could sneak into Chris's house (Chris was supposed to be sleeping over at my house) and "camp out" in the guest room. Chris didn't let us use the bathroom or do anything that made any noise at all so I just laid down and hoped to god I didn't piss myself once I fell asleep.
When the morning came and Chris's parents were gone, we went downstairs and made ourselves some breakfast.
-----Thursday-----
Chris took us all home so we could get ourselves some rest for the night. The plan was to get together for 6 and head up to Stafford Springs. While waiting for Chris and Jess to show up I wrote Jess a letter like I promised. At around 630 Chris and Jess showed up in my driveway and we headed over to McDonald's where we were to meet Ray, Hoa, and Ryan at 7. Before that Chris remembered he had to stop by Jay's house to pick something up. After Jay's house we went over to Jess's mom's house to pick up a CD to listen to on the way over. We met up and headed out.
When we got to Stafford Springs there was fog all over the place. It took us a good fifteen minutes to drive through a road that normally takes five minutes. In the process, we lost Hoa. We showed up on the campground to meet Dill and Dumont there only to receive a call that the others were lost. They were at a FedEx completely confused. Dill and I headed over to the camper while Dumont, Chris, and Jess went to look for Hoa, Ryan, and Ray. Dill and I salvaged the fire and waited for the others to come back. Once they all showed up we headed out to a local pizza place to fill our stomachs before the long night.
The night was pretty intense and we all had ourselves a great night. Always good times in Stafford Springs.
-----Friday-----
We got our stuff together and just relaxed in the morning. We ripped around on the quads for a little. Chris, Jess, Ryan, Hoa, and I went over to a truck stop to have some "coffee" at the Dunkin Donuts. We ate some breakfast and headed back to the camper. We sat around for a while then packed up and left.
Chris dropped Jess and me off so we could wash up so we could get back together later. When I got home and washed up then finally sat down and chilled I started to feel like shit. I ate way too many brownies and my head was spinning. I felt like I was going to boot or pass out any second. I made myself some tea and waited for Chris and Jess to show up. We headed over to Chris's house to sit around and relax in each other’s company. Jess made some beef stew that looked pretty damn beat while Chris made some chili bean stuff. Both of their meals came out of a can so I don't think they'd be too offended if I told them they both looked pretty damn bad. Never the less, I was hungry so I finished off the rest of the chili.
We ended up ordering a movie, The Ring Two, and it wasn't too bad but I guess my love for thrillers has died off in the last few years. It felt so good to just be sitting there wrapped in a warm blanket with the soothing feeling of body heat getting some much needed rest. I had to have nodded off at least five times with my head resting on Jess.
After the movie we decided to order another so we made ourselves some Jiffy Pop popcorn, SO FUN, and we ordered The 40 Year Old Virgin. We got comfortable and started the movie up. It was pretty funny. By the end of the movie we are all so out of it. It was so hot under the blanket, I was scared to move because I was in a tangle with Jess and I was so comfortable minus the scorching temperatures. I wasn't going to say anything but as soon as I thought about it, Jess moved to take a layer off giving me the opportunity to do the same. When the movie ended we sat around for a little until Jess had to go home.
Chris dropped us off at home. The rest of the night was spent on the computer as I began to type this all up while doing some CHATTING!
-----Saturday-----
Plans for today are to wait until Jess gets back into town then we'll head out somewhere. Perhaps we might go to a beach with a nice boardwalk and just chill. So far, I've just been sitting around listening to music just waiting.
I had so many dreams today. Last night I had a number of dreams.
1) I was in school and I had a conflict with a teacher. We ended up getting in a large quarrel and I got written up. My parents were pretty cool with me getting written up because they agreed with me.
2) I was driving the Lexus with my dad and mom and I was chasing a girl who was leading me on a chase. The setting was beautiful. We were racing along a cliff like those seen in pictures of Greece or Portugal with the clean blue sea down below. I got in an argument with my parents about the girl.
3) I was snowboarding with Dill and the mountain felt like it was never going to end. I could see Dill off in the distance but I never really communicated with him. I was jumping around doing my own thing when I looked down to the bottom to see Dumont standing there next to some tall guy in a black trench coat. Dumont then shouted over to us, "Alright guys, I'll be right back" and he left.
4) I was snowboarding on flat ground. I just kept pumping me knees and it just kept propelling me forward. After about a mile I approached a weird looking single person lift. It was the weirdest contraption ever. You were supposed to wear a belt and it made you have a metal socket right over your crotch region and a solid metal bar about 5 inches in diameter slowly came down from the top and plugged into the socket securing you in place. The lift began to move up once I sat down and got secured in it. I felt like I was stuck and I couldn't move.
5) I was on a lift with Dill, we were half way up and I realized I had no gloves. I told Dill and he laughed. Then I told him I didn't need any.
6) Dill, Myself, and two others I couldn't identify were snowboarding side by side up a mountain. It was weird not only because we were snowboarding up a mountain but also because at one point I was hovering two feet above the ground. I tried pumping my legs to see what would happened and it felt like I was just bouncing on a pocket of air. It felt so cool. I then dropped down from the air and continued.
That was last night. Sitting around today, I closed my eyes and had a rather intense dream.
I was at the beach. The only person I could identify was Jess. I was lying on the sand screaming in pain. I felt that my femur was shattered (Mr. Fuss says a broken femur is probably the most painful bone to break.) I just laid there screaming. Jess let me hold her hand while we were waiting for the paramedics to show up. I grabbed onto her and held on tightly as my leg went numb. I told her to reach into my back pocket and take out my wallet to give me some codeine I had stashed in there(don't worry, I don't really stash codeine in my wallet). She gave me some codeine and I held onto her until I passed out.
Finally, Up to date with this thing. Time to finish up this vacation on a positive note.
