oliverrrrrrrrgh

i saw oliver twist this afternoon and it wasn't very good.

despite an alright performance by ben kingsley (fagin) and some good set/costume design i just found it so stilted and borish. it could've been the lack of music coupled with the fact that everyone knows the story that made it so crap, but it was just bad. especially the scene(s) leading up to the death of bill sykes. to have almost ten minutes dedicated to the finding of one man, including a scene that is he and his dog walking along a road, followed by, "we're going back to london" was completely needless. Everything in the movie was made blatantly obvious and there was no effort to really show the nastiness and grime of industrial london besides the obligatory rags and soot-face.

my highlight was the little girl crying in the row behind.
