the soundtrack to our lives

Tonight i laid my wife to rest and then emerged from the bedroom
a creature of intention and purpose
the night drives me to create
as do those around me

(you are all such beautiful artists
making things that are fun to see, listen, taste, smell.)

but tonight for once i remembered
i am dependent upon my tools
to create music of the magnitude that i hear in my head

so instead of playing the same old chords that i have since
i first learned how to play,
i reached way back into my fine up-bringing

and out of my fingers burst those long forgotten
orchestral compositions of my youth
i saw my guitar differently than ever before

it wasn't even a guitar anymore
rather
a violin on steroids

and i remembered that the most driving songs from
rock bands that i have ever heard
at least for me
were those that sounded to me like they should
be played by orchestra as well

(for instance, i swear to god some fordire stuff sounds
completely brilliant- like hanz zimmer or john williams wrote it
for an epic movie. who was there for lord of the rings on fordire? you guys know!)

so now, i'm allowing orchestral performances to
infect my hard drive like the freakin plague.

and my new goal is at least 3 original score pieces from sweetass movies
per day, accompanied by guitar recital for 1 hour and no less.

playing a quiet backdrop to these soloists in our ensemble
will be a good dose of situps and pushups
and a damn good attempt at no more cigarettes.

thank you for reading if you did.
but this was more for me not you. sorry :(
