it never rains on a picnic day

Ok, today has to be the day it rains right? It hasnt rained in like 2 weeks but today when the outdoor movie is playing.

But as I was walking back from class today, I thought of something that my grandma always said; "It never rains on a picnic day". See before I was born my family in Chicago used to go on picnics all the time, and if it was raining before they went, she would say that. It is good to be optimistic.

The day of her funeral, about 4 years ago, it rained all morning. But we said , it never rains on a picnic day. And, the rain stopped when we went to the cemetary to the burial. I haven't really thought about her death since today, and I really wish I would have gotten to know her better, she was an awesome Italian woman.

When she died I wasn't that sad, because it was her time. She had been in a nursing home for a year and half, and needed dialysis 3 times a week, and at the end she was dead to us already, because she wasn't herself. She was the last Morreale, and that can be very hard on a person. However, at the burial (not at the wake), I ended up bawling like no other. Maybe because it wasnt raining, but also my cousin read the lyrics to a Celine Dion song, and thats when it really hit me, that she wasnt here anymore.

I know this is a sad post, but it was on my mind today, and I decided I needed to put my memories into words.

Fly, fly little wing
Fly beyond imagining
The softest cloud, the whitest dove
Upon the wind of heaven's love
Past the planets and the stars
Leave this lonely world of ours
Escape the sorrow and the pain
And fly again

Fly, fly precious one
Your endless journey has begun
Take your gentle happiness
Far too beautiful for this
Cross over to the other shore
There is peace forevermore
But hold this mem'ry bittersweet
Until we meet

Fly, fly do not fear
Don't waste a breath, don't shed a tear
Your heart is pure, your soul is free
Be on your way, don't wait for me
Above the universe you'll climb
On beyond the hands of time
The moon will rise, the sun will set
But I won't forget

Fly, fly little wing
Fly where only angels sing
Fly away, the time is right
Go now, find the light
