the ice skating teacher... AKA the "potluck" proposal...

definitely sad that an awesome spring break has come to a quick end... ::exhale::

monday, mom told me the story about when doc went to our church with the LSU flute quartet... it was nice to hear about how excited he was to learn more about our church and my family, how pleased he was with glendale filipino, and the positive things he had to say about me, and how i "came to PUC loaded with talent already," implying that he didn't have to do much to push me in the right direction...

made plans to watch 300 with pamela... ended up catching the latest showing at 10:30, since she had class... met up at santa anita mall, watched the movie... so many beautiful moments in that movie, where i just felt like standing up and clapping... overall, a great movie experience, with good company...

risk night plans on tuesday were a bust, since jon's, edrey's, and my schedules could never align... rescheduled for saturday night... picked up mom from work that morning, where i endured a drive through random snow and huge windstorms... it was nice talking to mom on the way home, though... other than that, it was definitely a lazy day at home... talked to jordan and david online earlier, and had a late-night online conversation with cory... after an extensive discussion about relationships, we came up with some ideas... basically, we're gonna pull a "music and lyrics" scenario, without the love story, haha! he's got awesome lyrics, i got the melodic ear... we're basically gonna make his songs a reality... it's gonna be great...

wednesday, caught up with marisa online... it's definitely been a while... plans with joyce were a bust... ended up solving my rubik's cube 5 times that afternoon... it was up a frustrating night overall, b/c once i was ready to head out to pamela's house for a sleepover, i discover that not a single car was in the driveway... had to wait until joseph got home from school to convince him to drive me there... had some good brotherly discussion on the way, asking him for some advice... he pretty much said the same things the few people i've asked have said... if andy, cory, AND joseph all agree, it must be a good idea, haha...

it was cece's birthday, so valerie planned a sleepover at their house... alyssa/emily/cece/luke/matthew slept over... i watched the kids play the wii, played some guitar hero... watched bootleg "music and lyrics" with pamela on my laptop; good movie with wittiness and romance... could've done without the excess hugh grant dancing, though, haha! after finishing the movie, we joined the kids in watching spiderman 2 downstairs, and we became harsh movie critics, bashing all the bad acting going on... also surprised at how adultlike luke acts, considering he's only 10... it's really sad; he should be able to live a normal 10-year-old life, rather than make the same comments that pamela and i were making... made sure the kids were set for bed, and knocked out afterwards...

thursday, we had breakfast, watched happy feet (great movie! pretty much said that about all of them so far, huh? definitely worth watching, although it seemed all over the place at the end), played some more guitar hero, solved my rubik's cube a couple more times, then headed to the ice skating rink... i ended up spending the majority of my time at matthew's side, teaching him how to ice skate... he's never skated/bladed/ice skated ever in the 14 years of his life, so we literally went through the entire process in those two hours... pamela helped out a lot as well, but i stuck by him the entire time... by the fourth round, he was able to maintain his balance and make longer strides... and he never fell once, haha! that guy really broke out in a sweat... had dinner at islands afterwards...

pamela, alyssa, and i killed time before praise team practice... ended up going shopping, and i bought myself two new pants and two shirts... got to practice late, thinking it was at 8... i'm now playing the synthesizer, in addition to some vocals, so i figured out some things to do... practice was a lot of fun, with everyone fooling around, "rising out of the planters, singing ooh's," and just being overall crazy...

friday, eunice came over... jason, joseph, eunice, and i ended up playing a 15-round game of mario party 7... it was nice playing a game with both jason and joseph, and of course, i won... 12 stars, 181 coins, winning practically all the minigames... haha... i'm just unbeatable at that game, and it's no fun NOT trying to win... hung out at glendale with eunice and jason, meeting up with valerie at the mall... went shopping more, and ended up suckering myself into applying for a banana republic credit card... i've pretty much spent about $300 on new clothes this week! geez... pamela met up with us, and we ate at octopus... got some frozen yogurt at rosegreen, had a quick target run with eunice, then joined matthew, allen, and ben, singing bass in church choir practice... it's nice singing bass for once, haha!

praise team was supposed to sing at loma linda for church, but since their gym became flooded from air conditioning fluid, we got cancelled... definitely an answer to prayer, since i wanted to go to GFC for church... went early, tried entering the newsletter name contest with my entry: "triple bypass;" a look at three aspects of church life: social, spiritual, and community life... praise team sang for prelude and special music, which went well... sat in the balcony with nancy, hazel, and jon... caught up, confirmed afternoon plans... ended up going to sizzler's for lunch with jason, pamela, jon, and hazel... found out that three of our entries didn't win for the newsletter name contest... pamela and i decided to fight against the winner, and constructed a proposal for why pamela's idea, "potluck," was a great newsletter idea...

went back to church, and presented the proposal to edrey...
"potluck:" what we bring to the table...
the rice - Bible texts and messages
the veggies - stories from the conference or other sources that help us grow
the meat - church activities and social gatherings...
the fish - community outreach...
the fruits - focus on the young people of the church...
the water - the pastor's message...
the dessert - fun facts and games...
there's no way that our newsletter idea's gonna lose... that $50 gift card to olive garden's as good as ours, haha! hung out with the kids for a bit, went to the mall to help pamela buy new jeans, then drove myself to jon's place to help him bake a cake (yes, we baked a cake, for the pathfinder dessert auction tomorrow)...

edrey came, and when jason and pamela arrived, we started up our game of risk... broke in edrey's new star wars risk board... jason and i were a team, against edrey and jon... we were the empire... thought the game was severely imbalanced to our favor, but edrey and jon ended up winning, surprisingly... we hung out, i cleaned jon's kitchen (yes, i cleaned his kitchen... scoured his surfaces, washed his dishes, etc... i take pleasure in cleaning), discussed high school... overall, just a great way to spend a saturday night...

^ we needed a decent picture of edrey, haha! edrey, jason, hazel, pamela, me, and jon...
game nights at jon's... definitely some of the greatest times at home...

so people have noticed a new john... a bolder, happier, funnier, more comfortable john... i'm glad that people think that i've changed positively, not to mention the weight loss... auntie ofie literally shrieked, and said i was unrecognizable from the back... good times... this week has been filled with positive affirmations galore...

so i'm back to the hill... this quarter should be interesting... new roommate, new classes with awesome people, and new situations... spring quarter, bring it on!

risk, movie
