the "surprise..."

tonight went very well...

but before tonight's vespers...

had breakfast with megan... glad to see her there, especially since it was her birthday, so i got to wish her well early in the day... sheldon enlightened us in books of moses, as always... prophets of israel went alright... the morning program... i haven't really mentioned how awesome pastor terry swenson has been, but i cannot stress enough, how brilliant, informative, and cut-to-the-heart his sermons are... his series has been entitled "faces of God," and every meeting, he'd present a different portrait of God: the patient sculptor, the lion king, the just judge... each image being very visual, and contrasting to one another, showing the many faces of God...

i cantori... finally graduated to second row, at least forcingly... it was fun, today... that bach motet doesn't seem to be learning itself, but i'm sure when it's pieced together correctly, it'll sound amazing... andy thinks it just sounds like a whole bunch of notes on a page... hilarious singing happy birthday to megan as little elves... it was creepy, but hilarious at the same time... throw in the "vibrato stick" and there's rehearsal for you...

had lunch with cara, tricia, and friend... discussed SMing, gospel choir, and music... andy came by the room later and we talked a bit... had to set up and practice for bells... darrin and i cut out of there for practice with cory, andy, and josh... andy was a no-show, but it was cool... headed up for megan and yvonne's surprise birthday party in winning parlor, but by the time we got there, she was already surprised, so everyone would just yell "surprise" for all the stragglers that came late... megan's mom and sister are hilarious! i played happy birthday on the piano, we chilled and ate, but soon enough, andy, josh, and i had to go practice again, and do sound check...

we practiced, recorded ourselves, and sang to josh's mom on his cell phone... our conversation afterwards led to very serious roadtrips, where we could hit up some locations in southern california, make a weekend trip out of it, singing for vespers, church, and maybe a sunday morning program... we talked about becoming official PUC living advertisement, seeing if we could get sponsored or get scholarship... this is serious... and i'm glad we're all thinking big... even big enough to try to record a serious CD, haha! although we joke around with names, we figure that we won't officially name our group until after the performance, b/c we needed a strong debut to get this off the ground... so BAQ, it is in my mind...

we headed over to the church, waited around until vespers... got a little antsy, but i knew things would turn out well... vespers started, and after the praise service, the five of us got up and revealed our "surprise..." this whole week, whenever anyone would ask us what we were singing, we'd just joke around, saying that it was a surprise... i started it, and it sorta became a running gag... our song went great! a couple of little flubs here and there, but overall, effective and pleasant...

pastor swenson spoke about how you can't box up God's power, and how He confided in a normal guy, david... what was it about david that God found favor for...? basically, david was a man of God's heart... he had all his faults, but his relationship with God was still strong enough to show that his heart and God's were beating as one... pastor swenson then goes to point out some crazy point that if you ever notice that if you form a circle during prayer, holding hands with one another, by the end of a prayer, you can feel your neighbor's pulse in sync with yours, through your locked hands... sure enough, during the benediction when he had us stand and hold hands during prayer, josh and cory's pulse matched mine at the end... crazy!
