the day for conversations...

today's just been the day for conversations...

just got back from darrin's room... we had practice in there since 10, and cory, darrin, and i ended up staying in there, talking until his shift ended at one... we got into talking about RAing, mafia (the "asian" game), sports and high school sports, different SDA schools (ie, SGA and their ghetto gym, GAA's horribly muddy field, and newbury's off-center football field), the art of playing guitar, darrin and my desire to work together in the future... good times, as always...

when the five of us were all there, we discussed certain issues i've been having, spiritually and socially... we also sang to beamy, darrin's girlfriend, and tried looking for new songs that we could possibly sing... where were they when i was looking for a song??? songs came to cory and darrin's heads in a snap... we've found new meaning for our B.A.Q., just in case anyone asks... in a church setting, it'd stand for "baritones assembly," in a secular setting, it'd be "baritones anonymous," and for our personal inside joke, it'd be "bad ass," with the Q. standing for quintet in all three cases...

i had an hour-long conversation with megan, since both of us were trying to kill time before being where we needed to be... she was very open to me in sharing some thoughts, and i was very open with her... she's become such an awesome friend this year, and i'm really glad that i've gotten to spend time with her... found out a lot about her life before PUC, and a lot of situations her friends have been through that have been frustrating... i like it when your friendship is at the level where you can be completely honest with someone, without fear of saying something wrong...

walked with yvonne to and from the mail room... got to understand where she was before PUC, with her abuelito... we also discussed our failures in supporting teachers, and then having them lash back at us... seems like we've both been in the same situation...

hee young called me yesterday, and i forgot to mention it! i didn't have much time with her, but it was so good to hear a nice, familiar voice... especially when you have dreams about the mentioned individual, where you cry to her b/c of what happened to the instrumental life at PUC...

ran into dr waters on the way to the bookstore yesterday too, and had our first interaction since last year... he asked me "how is the whole of the music department doing," in reference to me, since he sees me as the entire music department... i laughed it off, then discussed how choir's fun b/c of all the awesome people i know, and friends i've made, and a lot of the songs we're singing, and he was glad to hear that...

cara called me today, in response to the letter i wrote to her... yes, i have no balls, and that's why i resorted to a letter... yes, i'm an idiot... i've already beat myself up about it a million times in my head... she thanked me for the contact, although i understand all her reasons to stay mad at me... i've never made myself that vulnerable to someone before, and still slap myself across the face about how things went down...

pastor mitchell said he referred me to people, who needed some help adding musical elements to their presentations... he said it was b/c of my ability to correspond with music of all kinds... pastor mitchell's awesome...

raboy wanted to understand why i was flustered, and i quickly shared with him some of my thoughts... i'm glad that our wind ensemble rehearsal went alright today...

this article intrigues me vastly... i've told so many people about it... i figured i'd post it here for a little bit, or maybe put it on a serious entry, but i thought i'd share...

Woman drinks so much water she dies
POSTED: 10:33 p.m. EST, January 13, 2007

SACRAMENTO, California (AP) -- A woman who competed in a radio station's contest to see how much water she could drink without going to the bathroom died of water intoxication, the coroner's office said Saturday.

Jennifer Strange, 28, was found dead Friday in her suburban Rancho Cordova home hours after taking part in the "Hold Your Wee for a Wii" contest in which KDND 107.9 promised a Nintendo Wii video game system for the winner.

"She said to one of our supervisors that she was on her way home and her head was hurting her real bad," said Laura Rios, one of Strange's co-workers at Radiological Associates of Sacramento. "She was crying, and that was the last that anyone had heard from her."

It was not immediately known how much water Strange consumed.

A preliminary investigation found evidence "consistent with a water intoxication death," said assistant Coroner Ed Smith.

John Geary, vice president and marketing manager for Entercom Sacramento, the station's owner, said station personnel were stunned when they heard of Strange's death.

"We are awaiting information that will help explain how this tragic event occurred," he said.

Initially, contestants were handed 8-ounce bottles of water to drink every 15 minutes.

"They were small little half-pint bottles, so we thought it was going to be easy," said fellow contestant James Ybarra of Woodland. "They told us if you don't feel like you can do this, don't put your health at risk."

Ybarra said he quit after drinking five bottles. "My bladder couldn't handle it anymore," he added.

After he quit, he said, the remaining contestants, including Strange, were given even bigger bottles to drink.

"I was talking to her and she was a nice lady," Ybarra said. "She was telling me about her family and her three kids and how she was doing it for her kids."

the things people do for video games nowadays... she was doing it for her kids, and look what ended up happening... they lost a mother in the process... geez...

i was very close in writing a slightly fuming entry today... but i'll refrain... i don't wanna sound preachy... at least not now, b/c we all know how much people hate it when people are preachy...

funny observation i've been making... basically, i'm the antithesis of tyler cantrell, in the respect of our friends... he hangs out with only asians and he's white, and i hang out with almost only white people, and am asian/pacific islander... crazy, huh...?

okay, i'm tired... i need to go to bed...
