holidays at the osio house... not complete, without some sort of disagreement (which is just a positive way of saying "fight")...
so jason, joseph, and i got mom and dad really nice longcoats... warm, fashionable, expensive... my dad had shown interest in a coat similar to the one we bought, so we decided to get that for him...
come christmas day, we had our traditional bowl of ariscaldo (filipino dish of rice soup with chicken... very tasty), then opened presents... jason got me a DS game, and joseph gave me a shopping spree at hollister... mom and dad, for the third year in a row, got the three of us $100 bills... nice, but thoughtless... just once would i like them to try to surprise us...
my mom enjoyed her gift a lot... my dad looked like he did too... until everything was over, and it was just jason and dad downstairs... dad told him to stop buying him expensive clothes, b/c he's a simple man, and can never wear it... jason lashed back with a "well, THANKS for being appreciative..." dad lashed back with a "if you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all..." jason then answered with a "well, then follow your own advice" and went upstairs...
later on, i heard my mom getting mad at him for being so unappreciative, sarcastically saying that they'd go first thing in the morning tomorrow, right when the store would open, and return it...
thank goodness for our "family" party at the gonzales' house, even though the ride there was in complete silence... it's a good thing the ride was silent, b/c i already planned my strategic speech for all parties involved in the squabble, had anyone decided to speak up...
we had good food, watched a pathetic basketball game that the lakers lost against the heat, then the kids decided to play catch phrase... valerie, jason, and joseph versus ben, pamela, and me... that game's intense! each of our teams ended up winning a game, then unluckily for my team, val/jason/joseph shut us out the tiebreaker round... ironically, they gave us our own catch phrase for christmas... it's coming up with me to PUC...
funny moments:
*ben's "soft like a rat," trying to get pam and i to guess "quiet as a mouse..."
*joseph's surfer phrase, paired with a random mentioning of that show on cartoon network about girly spies, accompanied by an impression of mentioned girly spies... trying to get them to guess "totally tubular..."
*me singing an entire verse of a spice girls song...
*valerie imitating michael jackson's moon walk...
*every moment someone hands over the pod and it buzzes in the person's hands...
*our imitations of jon's calmness as he plays...
ended up watching a german foreign film about the tearing down of the berlin wall, while the adults played the wii... something sound wrong there...? yes... adults playing video games, while the kids watch a serious movie about historical events, sorta... we could hear the screaming and laughing from all the way upstairs, through closed doors and a loud movie... the movie was called "goodbye lenin," about a son who tries to prevent his activist mom from relapsing into a heart attack, when she fell into a coma for eight months while the berlin wall was torn down and everything in east germany changed...
mom thankfully let the three of us stay while they went to another christmas party, which the three of us knew would be lame... we ended up playing some wii, guitar hero, and going out for christmas dinner at denny's, as we discussed who our wedding parties would be, as valerie told us details about her and ben's wedding... i think i have six guys down... it's so hard, especially when this is the first year where my friendships with guys have really solidified... i have found it easier to relate with girls, especially since i grew up with so many at church...
well, here's to next year... let's try to see if we can have a successful christmas...
