Okay, sorry this has just become a forum for me to promote Ursa Minors things--but how funny is this creation of mine?
Oh, and here is a real update on my life:
It's swell to be back in the swing of things at Brown. Classes are
going well and I even have my first on campus job evAr! I am teaching
study skills to Brown students! Yes, I give workshops on time
management and test taking. Oh man, I am now the ultimate student.
Unfortunately this was not my first choice job. Indeed, I wanted to
work at the Alumni Office. However, at my interview I was asked if I
could lift heavy boxes, to which I responded: "do I look like I can
lift heavy boxes?" Needless to say, this sass wasn't really appreciated
by the Alumni Office and now I'm locked in a room with people of my own
age and purchasing power. Meanwhile, my own academic situation has
improved since last semester. I am taking two public policy/political
science seminars on political institutions and people of color in
public education, a course on the international political economy of
development, and club dread--economics. I've preemptively arranged for
a tutor through Academic Services here. Unfortunately, a B is just not
an option in this course as I'm set on the path to public policy grad
school which is 50% econ--waaaaah!
Aside from my academics, I continue being super involved in Ursas.
Indeed, my next arrangement should appear sometime before March! I've
downloaded Sibelius--love love love it--and have put together a
charming arrangement of the Beach Boys' "Don't Worry Baby" with strands
of Stevie Wonder's "Don't You Worry About A Thing". A challenging task
since the Beach Boys song is so clearly major and happy--whole thing is
practically Emajor, Amajor, Bmajor. The Stevie Wonder on the other hand
is complex and very chromatic, with the chorus goes Eminor, Bmajor,
Fmajor. Okay so that looks like it should work but it's actually a
disaster and I'm thinking about scraping my creative addition all
together despite the relevance of the message. Ah to be a college a
cappella arranger. Apologies to all that a cappella has become my life,
but at least I'm doing it with a worthwhile group--look at how the
Contemporary A Cappella Records Awards selected the
Ursa Minors as one of the top ten female a cappella albums of 2005!
omg, it's like winning a grammy. Speaking of which, congrats to my two
favs--Mariah and John Legend!! omg, when did I turn into such a hip hop
affectionado, I have no idea.
So yes, life is pretty lovely. Hope all is well with you my friends.
I'll be down to DC in less than a month--I bought my ticket today!
Whee!!!
kay bye
