Well, ladies and gentlemen, it's Friday.
I don't have much to report.
Last night, Lisa and I saw Theatre Downtown's production of Grease, as directed by my best friend, Steve MacKinnon. We have seen several of the rehearsals, so it wasn't the first time we'd seen it--but they have really pulled it off. It's Grease. There's nothing remotely pivotal about this show--it's one dimensional fun, and Steve has staged a very nice production in a technically-challenged space. YAY Steve!
And I know many will be disappointed to hear that I will NOT be stepping into the role of Sonny Latieri for one of the weekends. I was all set to play it, but then he told me it was the weekend I would be in Tampa for the Florida State Thespian Festival.
Florida State Thespian Festival? But Matty, you're not a teacher anymore.
I know, kids. But, I will be at the 2006 State Thespian Festival as an adjudicator. And the perks for judging at State are just as good as judging in Miami. A nice hotel, free lunch, money, etc. It's basically like a vacation while helping high school actors grow. You certainly can't complain about that.
I will be judging four days of one-acts. FOUR DAYS! Four days in a dark theatre watching the best of each District's one-acts. I hope they really are good and I don't have to sit through any "mercy Superiors."
Anyway, Lisa and I are going to try to see The Musicals of Musicals tonight. I so enjoyed their preview of the show at the last Cabaret Party. I can only imagine that the rest of the show will keep me laughing just as hard.
XOXO!
