*headdesk*

I have to say something about child-rapist Roman Polanski. I've been all over the interwebz (like usual) reading about this and people's reprehensible response. Namely Hollywood. I've been on Hollywood's side more than once, because I mostly agree with their liberal-leaning ways. I applaud them for their Proposition Hate effort, I really do. But now I have to *shudder* almost side with the right on this and call them for what they are: A bunch of star-fucking opportunists who value 'art' over CHILD RAPE. Yeah. The girl was 13 years old for dog's sake!
There's a petition these deluded CHILD RAPIST SYMPATHIZERS have started on behalf of poor oppressed Polanski. I'm saddened to see some of my favorite directors on there. Let the boycott begin.

From the Washington Post:
Eugene Robinson: "This isn't about a genius who is being hounded for flouting society's hidebound conventions. It's about a rich and powerful man who used his fame and position to assault -- in every sense, to violate -- an innocent child.

And it's about a man who ran away rather than face the consequences of his actions. Before any sentence could be imposed, he absconded like a weasel to live a princely life in France.

That's the sort of protagonist, a great director like Polanski must realize, who doesn't deserve a happy ending."

People who suck in Hollywood:
Full list: http://community.livejournal.com/ohnotheydidnt/39618660.html

Woody Allen-no surprise as his character that he wrote in Manhattan was basically one and the whole Soon-Yi thing, which wasn't the same, of course, but still creepy as all get-out
Wes Anderson-not a big fan to begin with, but I liked him okay enough until now
Darren Aronofsky-Oh, the maker of Pi and Requiem. Clearly 'artistic genius' doesn't mean that you're smart, too
David Lynch-Ha! No surpise on this one, freaky weirdo misogynist
Martin Scorsese-I find his films misogynist as well
Pedro Almodovar-sad
Asia Argento-sad
Gael Garcia Bernal-sad
Penelope Cruz-sad
Alfonso Cuaron-sad, especially considering he directed a movie with children on set, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Do you think those actor's parents would feel comfortable knowing the director sides with a CHILD RAPIST?
Guillermo del Toro
Terry Gilliam-sad, ditto Alfonso Cuaron's response
Harmony Korinne-Definitely no surprise here, as Mr. Korinne has displayed his lavish and unabashed love for all things rape in "Kids" and "Gummo"
Alexander Payne-Why hast thou forsaken me Alexander Payne?!?!?! I love your movies, I own like three of them, I love your style. Damn you for siding with a PEDOPHILE.
Julian Schnabel-Your art is okay, but damn if I'm a huge fan of your "Basquiat" film. Damn.
Tilda Swinton-General cool lady is cool no more.
Harrison Ford-What, did you need to stick your name somewhere that will give you some much-needed recognition since you rightly fell off the face of the earth for no-talent asshattery?
Jeremy Irons-Oh the irony of him starring in 'Lolita' does not escape me, dear readers
Natalie Portman-Guess your fancy education won't help you see that you're defending a rapist
Diane von Furstenberg-Love your wrap dresses, lady, but you need a wake-up call.

I cherry-picked the actors/directors/whatever that I know and recognize and even admire. Note on the full list that it's overwhelmingly French folks or foreign folks that back him up. Also note that there are a lot of men on there-no surprise, since men hate women anyway and see them only as cum receptacles devoid of human feelings or emotions. I'm saddened by the women on there-did they suddenly forget how it feels to be 13? I remember being very weary and aware of men at that age, bordering on fear. How can a 13 year old consent to an act like that with a 40-something man? She can't. The power structure is unbalanced. He took advantage of her, plain and simple.
The women on this list disturb me. Don't forget that women can be used as tools as the patriarchy, too, as they are just as brainwashed as men into victim-blaming and rape culture.
