Okay, I have no idea what possessed me to write this - other than having just re-read some Jane Austen. Non-Austenites, this is probably not too interesting
( Read more... )
Yes, I am a closet Austen-fan. When I'm not dreaming of pretty boys in pain, I'm imagining polite dinner parties and Regency gowns. :D
It's going to take some thinking to come up with Jane's next letter, I mean, after a week in the country with Darla and Angelus, she might not be inclined to speak of it, even to her dearest Cassandra!

I wonder what would Austen think of this... Although maybe Spike might be flattered (although he might not want to admit it because who reads pansy English literature, right? :D)
I thought this was hilarious, and loved the descriptions of Angelus and Darla. Your Jane Austen voice was pithy and very funny- I suspect it is spot-on but I confess I've never read Austen (it just seems so _girly_, reading about Regency period romances and so forth).
I love the notion of Angelus and her swopping smart remarks about literature, and her description of his musical tastes. And I really love the vivid imagery you evoke of Darla's clothing and her remarks. Your Darla voice, I can say with certainty is spot-on.
I really loved the remark about marriage being all right, but 'she wouldn't go so far as to order a cake', and Angelus's response. Thank you for sharing!
Hee. I recently - but not so terribly recently as to be trusted to be right on all the particulars - read the complete correspondence of Jane Austen.
It takes a special kind of love to read someone else's letters when most of them are about buying cloth or who danced with whom at the most recent ball.
I wish I'd had this mad silly idea before the Darla ficathon. :D
I love this. Great sense of period, especially with the description of Darla's dress, and I think Jane, with her usual perspicacity, has Darla and Angelus pegged perfectly.
hee hee. So glad you enjoyed. Ah, costume porn! :D
This whole silly thing started, of course, with that one line in your Darla fic about her missing the regency fashions. I do see her as a woman always on top of the current trends, and Jane did respect keeping in touch with fashion. ;)

Oh, me too, though I think she would have hated some of the fashions. Imagine going from regency dress to early Victorian. The awful hairstyles alone would have probably made her want to take to her bed for a decade.

I think you should write a Darla POV something anyway! There needs to be more Darla in the fanfic world.
You can always say William didn't put it into the post in time for deadline. ;>

Eeep!
I loved Jane's disapproving tone about Mr. & Mrs. Angelus and especially Darla's clothes sense.

Darla is always fashionable! I declare it so!

If I do a sequel, I think it will be a letter from Darla to the Master.
