Tonight Kaytee is posting.... from her new laptop! hehe. Okay well maybe It's not exactly new. But Sam is letting me use his old laptop for school and whatnot (which is exactly what I intend to use it for. But I can't yet because it doesn't have a battery so for now I have to keep it plugged in). I'm super excitedd if you couldn't tell. And I' really lucky to have a boyfriend who spoils me so much, hehe. Right now I'm using this really nifty thing called Orb which lets me access all my files from my desktop so I can still listen to all my music and use my photos but they don't have to take up tons of space on the laptop. I've used it on my phone before to access music but it works really great for my laptop. Anyway enough aboout my awesome new laptop and on for a real update. Sorry it took so long! I should be able to update more as things start settling into routine here. The first few weeks of class were just crazy and confusing.
So classes started two weeks ago which is insane because it seems like almost no time has gone by at all and there's only 14 weeks left in the semester which means I'm already 1/8 of the way through this semester's classes, haha. All-in-all classes themselves haven't been so bad. on MWF I have Macroeconomics and Essentals of Government 9am to 11am. TR I have Freshman Seminar, Into to Communication, and Fundamentals of Accounting 9am to 1:30pm. I think next semester I'm going to have all MWF or all TR classes though. I though waking up at 9am would be more than late enough but I'm actually really tired every day. I don't really want to take afternoon or evening classes though because I feel like they would interfere with both and any social live I hope to develop here, haha. That and I would always be tempted to miss class. I guess we'll jus have to wait and see how I survive this semester and plan accordingly to next. But yeah, the actual subject matter of the classes isn't too hard. The hardest part was more so figuring out exactly what the professors wanted us to do because assignments are so vague and because many of the assignments aren't actualy writte anywhere, they just mention it at the beinning of class and we have to remember it. Two of my classes have completely web based assignments though, which I really like because I've been able to work ahead and that way if I forget an assignment or are too busy with another class one night I have the assignment done already. But otherwise I can go back and change my answers on the assignments up to three times until the due date so i'm not locked into my origional answers if I want to guess. My Economics class uses a web platform called Aplia which is really straightforward and simple and easy to use. My Accounting class uses a Homework Manager set up by McGraw Hill and I have had more problems with it than you could immagine. It took me almost the entire two weeks of class just to figure out how to work the thing. We were given a 1-800 number to call if we encountered problems but apparently whenever anyone in the class tried to call we were told they were only taking calls from professors and students should submit any questions via email. I finally figured it out today and completed my first assignment which was pretty simple, but very different from the material we learned in class. Luckily all of our assignments and quizes in that class are open book because I find the book to be much more straightforward, easy to understand, and true to the assigned work than the class letures are. Freshman seminar sort of like a... how to transition into college class, so there's lots of short, little, high school esque assignments. Intro to Coms is interesting but so far the subject matter seems to be sort of self explanitory. We'll see though, my first quiz in the class is on Tuesday. Wish me luck! So far the only class I'm really concerned about is Government. It's crazy! The teacher just talks nonstop and it's next to impossible to take notes. Grading is broken up into 4 categories. 25% Midterm, 35% Final, 20% debate summaries and 20% pop quizes on the presidential campaign coverage from the NY Times website. Debate summaries are all sort of current event debates. All we have to do is summarize the background information of the debate, list 4 pros and 4 cons. I realize this makes the class sound like a breeze but with no relevant assignments and no quizes there's no way for me to track my progress. I'm just totally lost in that class. Hopefully the tests are pretty true to the book because I'm going to be studying that thing like crazy.
Other than school life has been pretty boring. All of my roommates are here now. It's worked out pretty well so far. Everyone gets along, but there still is some of that initial awkwardness in the house, i think. The girls are still relatively quiet and reserved, but I think that's just their personality. They're all really nice girls though. So I'm glad. I'm sort of anxtious to get a job though. Weekends are such a snore, and my money situation is making me nervous. Anybody got any ideas? I turned in a few job applications at the mall but I would really prefer to work a job that pays at least decently instead of the usual min-wage retail job. I got an account with the school career center website so I've been watching that, but if anybody else has an idea PLEASE PLEASE don't hesitate to tell me. It would be very much appreciated. This weekend I spent a day sleeping at Sam's (WHICH WAS AMAZING. OMG MY BED IS SO UNCOMFY AND SMALL) and a day putting together this totally awesome collage for my closet door. I'll take pictures for ya'll soon. This was just sort of a spur of the moment update since I waited two whole weeks after moving to update so I don't have any special pictures or videos or anything prepared. Sorry tl;dr text only super lame boring post.
Annywayy, I think that's about all I can think of right now. I'm going to try and make a vide or at least post something introducing you to my roommates provided they agree to participate. I've started writing leters to a few of you so expect those soon. If you want me to write you too tell meee. It may be a few days until I have access to my mailbox though, I'm waiting for the front office to bring me a copy of our mailbox key. But yeahh. Super sorry for the boring post but I figured at least a few of you wold appreciate it. Keep me updated with what's going on with you guys, okay? I miss you all like crazy!
