shittily, literally. Shit. about mid day Jan 1, I was doing laundry, cleaning the last of the dishes from my sister's party, and Lance was showering. And the the water started to back up in the bathrooms. ( Read more... )
that is expensive and that hurts! I didn't know the sewer line is not part of the inspection; it should be! You are welcome to use our showers/baths whenever you wish! It is definitely bad timing but hopefully, the misfortunes will end with that.
jesus! i can see how you would really feel hammered by this. that's a lot of money you're talking about. one thing, though: even though the plumber's a friend you should get one or two other estimates - just to be sure. another thing: i dimly recall when i bought a house back in '94 that it came with some kind of "warranty" for the first year. do you have anything like that? and yet another thing: one thing i've learned is that bills are the easiest problem to solve in this life. you either have the money or you don't. sacrifice is often part of the deal. hang in there.
I asked about that but they only cover what's in, above, or under the structure itself. Since this is outside and not really part of the house, it's not covered. Super drag.
I know we'll get this paid off. I'm just having a mini pity party. I was really hoping to take a vacation this year ( haven't taken one in 2 years), and start doing little things around the new house. There goes the money for that plus some.
I think I'm going to go ahead and take time off in March even if we don't go anywhere.
Lance is talking this more in stride than I am. I feel like I'm being a big baby, but I'm just bummed. I'll get over it, but right now, I'm disappointed.
OMG that sucks in so many ways!!! Haven't you found that home "inspections" are basically a load of crap?!? I think they just try to scare you with their fat reports of which of your electrical outlets doesn't work (insert dramatic chipmunk face here) so you won't buy the house & the real estate agent will recommend that inspector again for the next bloke that comes along & puts in an offer. SO ANNOYING!! Our inspector didn't tell us we had 6 layers of asphalt shingles sitting on the original 1932 cedar shake shingles either!!! GRRRrrrr. Anyway, I feel your pain & I feel for you.
It does suck. It was such an expensive, unplanned expense.
I think our inspector for this house was fine. We know there are a few things we need to do over the next 2 years. I think the one who checked our first house blatantly left things out though. The pipes under the house were rotting out. I don't see how he could have missed that.
Evidently no inspectors check the outside sewer line, only plumbers do that. The camera costs like $4,000 so they charge you between $175 and $350 to run the camera down there. Both Mr. Rooter and the guy who ended up doing the work said they are tough cameras but they do get broken from time to time. They won't risk that equipment for free.
