Katherine Pierce. The name invokes fear, hatred, or anger in almost everyone who's ever met her.
But not him. For him it's nostalgia. The sound of her name has him in a bad mood - not because he dislikes her, but because he misses her. Misses her. No one misses Katherine Pierce. He's the exception, though. He's always the exception.
…
He loves her. Not loved. No past tense. There is no past tense with Katherine; she's now&forever and once she makes a place in your mind, or heart, or soul, she stays. She's unforgettable and irreplaceable and always there. She will haunt him until the day he dies. But he doesn't regret it, not ever. Love isn't something to be regretted. It's to be cherished until it's gone and even then it should stay in your heart. He realizes that.
…
She came back. One day, she came back and found him and he lied. He's a liar. Ihateyous and insults came out of his mouth. But she's a liar too, and she can tell lies when she hears them. She knows the truth. The truth that Stefan Salvatore still loves Katherine Pierce and that that love will never fade away; not ever.
Katherine won't let him forget. Never. Elena won't let him forget either. She is a living breathing replica of her and even if he loves her for who she is, he will always look at her and see Katherine and only after that will he see Elena. And it makes him feel horrible but he can't help it because Katherine came first and she will always have her place in his heart.
…
He killed her. Elena died at his hands. She came back, though, with sharp teeth and a need for blood. Now they could really live happily ever after. Their fairytale lives would never end and that's how they wanted it. They wanted to be Stefan&Elena, together forever.
And forever is a long, long time, but he doesn't think he will ever forget her. No matter how in love he falls in with Elena, Katherine will be there, and he's beginning to hate that. Because now that he has Elena forever, he wants Katherine gone from his mind and his heart and his soul but that can't happen. She's branded him, and no matter how many times he washes himself her mark won't disappear. Maybe, it will fade just a little but it won't ever be completely erased.
…
He heard the news after he married Elena. His brother told him, looking totally unaffected. Stefan knew he was hiding behind a mask but didn't have time to be annoyed with Damon's fake indifference, because the words coming from his mouth were almost unbelievable.
Katherine died.
After all those years and decades and centuries she was caught and killed by Klaus. Stefan tried to not think about it, to act like he didn't care just like Damon, but he couldn't do it. Even death didn't take away the feelings he had - has - for her.
He wondered if she was in Heaven. Probably not. Katherine wouldn't be happy there, anyways. She'd much prefer Hell. Heaven was for girls like Elena, who enjoyed doing nice things and helping old ladies cross the street. Katherine would be utterly miserable somewhere like that-but maybe she was there. Maybe God would punish her by placing her in Heaven.
He decided not to think about it too hard. He could only think - hope - that one day he'd see her wherever she was.
…
He kept going on with his life and Elena. Happily ever after for a veryveryvery long time (too long, he thought sometimes). And, true to Katherine's nature, she stuck to his heart till the day he died.
