The housing crisis.

My apartment lease is up a month earlier than I thought: May 31st. And the apartment office is asking that I make a decision a month before that: April 30th. In 10 days.

My dilemma is this: as nice as it is to have a beautiful place all to myself, it's using up a considerable portion of my paycheck. Not only is rent higher, but electricity, internet, and cable are killing my bank account as well.

The only person I really want to room with next year is... guess who... Russ. But there are two problems with this. The first is that Russ graduates this summer, and does not yet have a job lined up. He may be leaving Tucson if he finds a job elsewhere. The second problem is that I hadn't even asked him if he would want to live with me.

On Thursday, I went in to the apartment office and asked for a two-month extension on my lease, so that I could wait until end of August to see how things pan out with Russ. They said they'd be happy to let me stay two more months... for $100 more each month. I can't do that.

I finally did ask Russ if he would be willing to room with me next year, and he said if he stays in town, yes. But that still leaves the issue of the two months between my lease ending and Russ knowing if he's staying in Tucson.

My vote is that I put everything in storage and crash... somewhere... for two months. With Gerry? With Russ? In my car? I don't know. But that would save me about $900.

Russ said he has some ideas, some good ones at that, and he'll think it over for a few days and get back to me.

So for now, I wait. And I'll try not to worry too much about this.
