When it's time to change, then it's time to change

Harmony left the office, and I had to restrain myself from running out the door after her. Wait, why did I do that again? Why shouldn't I go after Harmony? It's my law firm, there's nothing stopping me from walking out of my office and talking to my very own secretary, was there? Of course not ( Read more... )

I had been so busy almost chewing on the fluffy end of my pen that when Angel appeared I nearly swallowed the whole thing. I really need to find another way to deal with those mid-afternoon blood cravings. I am trying to cut back and all. Woouldn't want to end up like the Bo....oh yeah. The Boss!

"Angel," I smiled brightly, brushing away the last of the pink fluff.

"Harmony, I have something very important I want to discuss with you."

"Oh!" I sat staighter in my chair, hoping he wouldn't notice I set it pretty permantly at this really nice tilt back that was much more comfy usually. I smacked the side a bit, vainly hoping the seat would straighten out. "Will I need my notepad?" I began pushing the magazines around the desk, looking for it.

Oh! The new Cosmo must have gotten dropped off by Number 5 while I was....

"Harmony, I know we haven't had the best relationship over the years-- you tried to kill me, I tried to kill you... you work for the most evil corporate entity in the universe, and now I run the company. But there are always bound to be bumps in the road, right?"

"Bumps...right," I echoed, trying to catch everything Angel was saying and write it in that shorthand stuff everyone keeps telling me I should learn. "And roads." I think there is still fluff in my mouth too. I blew at it lightly, then brushed at my tounge with one hand.

"What I'm saying, I guess, is that I want to make up for all of that right here, right now. I want to show you that there isn't a bit of that old me left, and nothing but the new, all-Harmony, all the time me."

Angel dropped to one knee, and I immediately followed. I mean, I was sure there was something in the rule book about my head not being higher than his, which when everyone is standing is so not an issue, but of course he had to go and do this. I hope he was ready to pick up the dry cleaning bill. OMG Bill. Maybe I knew what this was about....

"The Desk! I announced, putting my other hand over where he grabbed mine. "Is this about the desk? My...your request got denied and you are trying to break it to me nicely?" I took a moment and centered myself, trying to be strong. "Then...I mean...it's ok." I rushed through it. "I understand."

"Harmony-- marry me!"

Okay then. Maybe not what I thought.

I looked at Angel, shocked. We are so totally wrong for each other. I mean for one thing he isn't blond and for everything else? Well we just don't have anything in common! I looked at our hands, and tried to think of the nicest way possible to to let him down gently.

OH!!!!!!!

I know!

"YES!!!!!

"Angel."

Boy, did my name sound good coming out of Harmony's mouth. It had such a bright, cheery sound to it, just like everything had a bright, cheery sound when Harmony was talking. Okay, the apologies and explanations she was always having to make weren't as cheery as when she was talking about, oh, say, her shoes or something, but it was still a big jump from my usual quiet broodiness. The stray bits of what looked like bright pink feathers poking out of the corner of her mouth didn't hurt the whole cuteness factor, either.

Wait, did Harmony just eat a flamingo?

Oh, never mind. I had bigger things to think about.

"Bumps...right. And roads."

Harmony was scribbling on her notepad. Why was she doing that? Of course, I realized-- every girl wants to remember the moment exactly as it happened. Harmony was just clever enough to be writing it down, taking dictation. Sharp as a tack, my girl.

She started talking about the desk I'd promised her, and something else, and I was sure it was just nerves, because there couldn't have been any doubt about what I was doing, especially since I was down on one knee. Nervous rambling. Totally natural. Just like our connection, just so natural, so obvious that we belonged together.

Then, I popped the question.

Harmony seemed to think for a few seconds, think hard. I held my breath, knowing just how much of a task that was, and hoping she didn't tire herself doing it.

"YES!!!!!"

I immediately jumped up and wrapped my arms around Harmony, picking her bodily up out of her chair. The next thing I knew, we were spinning around in place and grinning at each other like a couple of starry-eyed bloodsucking kids.

"Thank you! Thank you, thank you!" I shouted, then turned to the whole lobby, where my employees had all frozen in their tracks to watch the happy occasion. "We're getting married!!"

Not putting Harmony down-- no way I was letting this one get away-- I carried her into my office, so we could start making plans right away.

I wondered if any banquet halls would let us rent for a party that ran through the middle of the night.
